Watershed Progress Meeting in Fort Sumpter Area
Landowners and operators in the Fort Sumpter Watershed met January 19 at the Soil Conservation Service Office. Twenty five farmers attended as three films illustrated watershed work and flood control. The group discussed farm plans, modern terraces to hold runoff, and pledged future meetings and construction on farms to boost productivity.

Savings Bonds as Tax Refund Option Warned by Official
John McWhirter of Allison, Butler County savings bond chairman, urged taxpayers to choose U S savings bonds for their tax refunds. He noted the 1963 option lets refunds be 50 dollar bonds for a 42 dollar refund plus a 4 50 check, highlighting growth and national economic support. He cited Attorney General Turner proposing to shift consumer fraud prosecutions to county attorneys, arguing local handling is better.
