The Editor Speaks on Corn Bowl Scoring Discrepancies

The editor argues that current wrestling scoring penalizes teams with byes, using Greene Nashua and St Ansgar as examples. A fair system would equalize first round byes, limiting any team to at most one more bye than others. Such changes could improve future meets and fair competition.

Petitions circulating for a bond election in early March on a school improvement program. Areas include bus maintenance garage, new shop facilities at the high school, music facilities, gymnasium with 1100 seats, conversion of current gym to cafe auditorium, new locker rooms, glass block installation, new toilet facilities, heating system conversion, and door replacements. Kenneth Wunsch son of Mr and Mrs Walter Wunsch underwent an appendectomy at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City Sunday morning. The Iowa State Tax Commission reports Butler County totals for the quarter ending June 30 1966. Butler County collected 98619.05 in sales tax with Greene leading at 21892.50 followed by Allison 11122.81 Parkersburg 15617.82 Clarksville 12146.67 Appling ton 8378.10 Dumont 6599.46 Shell Rock 5357.24 New Hartford 4883.02 and smaller figures for under 500 population rural and non permit categories. Consumer tax totaled 617.00 and use tax on motor vehicles and trailers reached 14582.52.

Greene High School Stage Band to Perform at Clinic

The Greene High School stage band, chosen from north Iowa, will play at the North Central and Northeast Iowa Bandmasters clinic in Charles City next Saturday February 4 around 2 30 p m for directors demonstrating new selections. Guest clinician Jack Watts will critique the band and directors. A concert follows in the evening. Clinic sessions happen in the junior high building, and all events are open to the public.

Corn crib destroyed by fire at Maxwell farm

Firefighters were called to the Galen Maxwell farm west of town last night around 8 15 and a corn crib with about 450 bushels of corn and several pigs were destroyed. The cause is unknown and was found by Maxwell.

Greene high school boys beat Parkersburg 66 to 43 while the Ramblerettes fell 48 to 45 at home. Mary Rottler scored 22 to lead Greene. Parkersburg’s Sandra Dickau had 15. Team shooting percentages were 36 and 45 percent respectively.

Boy Scout Week Observed February 7 13 1966 Theme Rounds a Guy Out

The Boy Scouts of America marks 57th anniversary February 7 to 13 with the theme Scouting Rounds a Guy Out. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts urged to wear uniforms at school on Rededication Day February 8. Scout Sunday February 12 invites Scouts to church in uniform. Blue and Gold banquet set for February 15 in Greene elementary school. Butler District totals: 7 Cub Scout Packs 192 Cubs, 9 Boy Scout troops 249 members, 3 Explorer Posts 44 members. Winnebago Reservation Marble Rock hosts year round training. In 1966 66 troops with about 1,050 boys camped June–July. off-season 60 units and 1,000+ boys camped rest of year.
