Grade School Music Festival At Mason City Saturday

Instrumental music students from Greene Community School will attend the Grade School Solo and Ensemble Festival at Mason City on Saturday February 11. Over 140 band students from grades five through eight, plus piano accompanists chaperones bus drivers and director, perform at three centers in the Mason City high school from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Each student will play a solo and most will join ensembles while judges listen and ribbons are awarded. Results are released next week and interested parents or friends are welcome to attend.

James O Connor 92 retired Dougherty farmer died Friday at St Josephs Mercy Hospital Mason City. He lived with son in law and daughter Tom and Irene Albrecht Greene. Born June 10 1874 Epworth son of Timothy and unknown. Married Anna Moran April 28 1896 Rockwell. Survived by two daughters Irene Holmes Sheffield Gladys Albrecht Greene five grandchildren 13 great grandchildren. Preceded by wife January 27 1947 a son Everett a daughter and nine siblings. Rites Held for George Stubbe 69 In Aredale

George Stubbe 69 of Aredale died Saturday at St Josephs Mercy Hospital Waverly after strokes. He farmed in Aredale area, born in Holland November 2 1897, immigrated young, lived in Butler County most his life. Survived by wife Mary Leuvens daughter Lila Minnier niece Alice Marie Weiser four grandchildren one great grandchild five sisters three brothers and several extended relatives. Funeral held Tuesday 1 30 PM at Wesleyan Methodist Church east of Aredale.

Fellowship Meeting At Church of Christ

The North Iowa area Men's Fellowship of the Church of Christ will hold its monthly meeting at the Greene church on Friday February 10 at 7 30 p m. A panel moderated by Hilliard Comeaux Waterloo will feature three 15 minute talks by William Whitney Des Moines on church participation in organizations David Quinner Dows on politics and Glen Bandel Mason City pastor on social and educational activities. A Des Moines firm, Cumberland Reis Co., was awarded the contract to repair the Shell Rock River bridge. The total cost is $10,759. Repairs include a new deck and the bridge will be closed to traffic for several weeks during construction.

Easter Seal Campaign Planned in Iowa

The 38th annual Iowa Easter Seal campaign runs February 21 to March 26 Easter Sunday. Irene Ingle of Clarksville is county seal chairman. Butler Chapter is among 89 local affiliates. Funds support rehabilitation centers case services Camp Sunnyside equipment research homebound and youth careers. Easter Seals aid all physically handicapping conditions.

Miss Iowa Visited Elevator at Farm Co op Society

Miss Iowa Kathy Solt 1967 visited farmers during appreciation day at Farmer's Inc Co op Society. She will appear in the Miss Universe Pageant in Miami Beach in early May. Solt is pictured with Francis Brinkman, elevator board president, and Eldon Peterson, elevator manager. She travels Iowawide under Pauline of Emmetsburg sponsorship and is daughter of Wilford and Mrs Solt of Jefferson. After her reign she plans professional modeling.

Butler County finished 1966 as a leading county in savings bond sales with a twelve month total of $909,534 in Series E and II bonds, reaching 103 percent of its annual quota. Iowa as a whole exceeded its goal with December sales boosting the year’s total to $113,851,480, 103 percent of the state quota.

Russell Perry Named County Bond Chairman

Russell J. Perry of State Savings Bank Aplington is named volunteer chairman of the United States savings bonds program for Butler County replacing John McWhirter Allison. Jay E. The Men's City Bowling Tourney finished Sunday at El Bar Lanes with two classes by average. Barn Fire Destroys Steere Farm Structures and Livestock

Greene firefighters responded to a Thursday morning blaze at the Jerry Steere farm located two miles east and one mile north of Greene. A 34 by 40 foot barn was destroyed along with 60 hogs and 1000 bales of hay after being first discovered at 5 45 a m. Authorities to determine cause were not listed.

Farmers Co operative Creamery Holds Annual Meeting at School Gym

The annual Farmers Co operative Creamery Association meeting drew about 165 attendees with a free noon lunch. Guest speaker R C Rucker of Mason City showcased creamery operations in Mason City, Dubuque, Pennsylvania and flood slides while Greene High School stage band provided music. New officers are Claire Johnson president Theodore Brinkman vice president and Lowell Allen secretary treasurer. New two year directors are Lowell Allen Claire Johnson and Clarence Brinkman with holdovers Harley Hansen Ray Brinkman and Theodore Brinkman. Income last year totaled 1 328 005 36 from milk and cream sales and related products. The Ramblers lost to St Ansgar 61 to 53 as Greene led 32 to 27 at the half but St Ansgar dominated the boards and fouls. Lynn Gabe led Greene with 23 points while Greene had 28 rebounds to St Ansgar 31.

Dan Stubbe Receives Navy Air Corps Discharge

Dan Stubbe son of Mr and Mrs Herman Stubbe has been discharged after four years with the Naval Air Corps. He served at Lemoore California and Yuma Arizona. His parents drove to Yuma to bring him home and visits followed in Las Vegas San Francisco and Pueblo Beach including the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament.

Rites Held for Mrs. E. M. Hunter in Madrid and Boone

Funeral services for Mrs. Delphine Vivian Wombaker Hunter were held at Sundberg Funeral Home in Madrid with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Born May 14 1881 in Minnesota, she married Edward M. Hunter in Beaver Creek Wyoming July 3 1900. They moved to Iowa in 1913 and resided near Boone 1932 1945 before retirement to an Acreage near Boone. She died February 3 at Mac's nursing home in Boone aged 85 years 8 months 20 days. Survived by eight children, thirty five grandchildren and fifty nine great grandchildren. Local attendees included Gary and Henry Kingery and others from Charles City Allison Aplington and Greene.
