Mail Carriers Receive Good Driving Awards

Clarence T. Kretzschmar was presented with a good driving award for 23 consecutive years without an accident as rural carrier at the Greene Post Office. Oscar Bartels received an award for seven years of accident free driving as rural carrier at Greene. The awards were presented December 20 by Postmaster Robert J. Curtis.

Mrs. Frank Berbohm 84 died in her sleep December 15 at Greene. Emma Evelena Walter born March 2, 1881 near Shell Rock. Married April 12, 1899. farmed in Clarksville then Greene. Ramblerettes Defeat Hampton 44 40 To Lead Conference

The Ramblerettes won their seventh straight, beating Hampton 44 to 40 as Greene led with 24 points including 10 free throws and 7 rebounds. Flora Stubbe had 10 steals, Ann Rottler added 24 points, and Hampton’s guards were harried, with foul trouble affecting both teams. Hampton’s B squad lost 37 to 30 as Crandall and Connelly led for the hosts.

Approval for Allison road work in 1968 plans

The U S Bureau of Public Roads approved a public hearing held at Aizen on September 16 for a project to improve Town 47 in Allison and Town 3 from Allicon to Town 122 junction. The Iowa 47 project targets 1968 at an estimate of 95300 dollars while Iowa 2 is set for right of way in 1966 and construction in 1967 costing about 1 405 900 dollars.

Gordon Hansen Stationed With Marines in Viet Nam

Gordon L Hansen son of Mr and Mrs Harley Hansen of Plainfield is serving with the Marines in Viet Nam. He enlisted August 1964 trained at San Diego and Camp Pendleton, went to Okinawa August and to Viet Nam in November. Commercial Club Gives Away 300 In Merchandise Saturday

The Greece Commercial Club sponsors a drawing next Friday December 24 for over 300 in free merchandise prizes. To enter, residents register at local stores and tickets are placed in one container before the drawing. Prizes are on display at Wunschen Plumbing. Ramblers Top St Ansgar 73 65 In Conference Scramble

Daryl Barnett returned from a knee injury to spark Greene to a 73 65 home win over St Ansgar. The victory creates a three way race in the conference with one loss for Greene, St Ansgar, and Rockford. Barnett scored 28 as Fischer added 10 of 17 from the floor, and McRoberts iced the game with late free throws.

Rites Held for E. M. Hunter 91 in Iowa Farm Era

Edward Madison Hunter born August 17 1874 in Madrid Iowa died December 8 at his home near Boone aged 91 years 3 months 2 days. He married Delphine Vision Wombsaker July 3 1900 in Wyoming and eight children were born. The couple lived in Wyoming Madrid Floyd County and Ben Kingery farm near Greene before retiring to an acreage near Boone. Funeral services were held at Sundberg Funeral Home Madrid on December 10 with burial in Mt Hope Cemetery. He leaves wife Delphine eight children 37 grandchildren 46 great grandchildren and two sisters.

Winners of Jaycee Christmas Decorating Contest

Junior Chamber of Commerce members judged a seasonal contest with seven entries in the rovelry and five in the religious division. First in religious went to Rev and Mrs George Knutson of West Dow Street, with Edna Hunt second at 411 North 5th Street and Harold Heeren third on a farm southwest of Greene. In novelty, Harlan Helm and partners won first from 311 North Fourth Street, second to Nieho at North Fourth Street, and third to Jerry Stemens of 402 North Fourth Street. Prizes were $20, $10 and $5 respectively for first through third.
