The
Iowa corn and soy plantings reach new high in 1966 forecast
The 1966 USDA crop forecast shows Iowa farmers planted about 11 million acres of corn and over 5.6 million acres of soybeans. Iowa's total raw cropland nears one million acres above the 1965 peak, with erosion and low productivity concerns. Rootworm damage and late silking complicate prospects, with damage being spotty and hard to gauge statewide. Late planting or excessive June moisture explains the higher late silking acreage.
