More than 400 people attended the open house at the Kenneth Debner farm south of Greene on Sunday afternoon. Door prizes went to Kenneth Sterling Allison Mrs Larry Schipper Aplington Mrs Art Stille Nashua and Bill Debner Jr. The event was sponsored by Farmers Inc Co op Society Maxson Frodden Lumber Greene Carroll Potter Equipment Cedar Falls.
Russell J. Perry of Aplington, volunteer county savings bonds chairman, reported July sales of Series E and H United States savings bonds and freedom shares in Butler county totaling 53,634. The seven month Butler total is 374,741 toward 1967 goal at 48 percent. Statewide July sales were 7,663,019, about five percent higher than June, giving Iowa seven month total 61,463,470 for 50 percent of the 1967 goal. Lyon county leads state at 90 percent, followed by Van Buren 80, Decatur 79, and Bremer 76.
Martha Stuntz returns from Norway after attending the International Summer School in Oslo. She will begin student practice teaching in Newton and will be a senior at Iowa State University in Ames this fall. She toured Europe with friends in a Volkswagen, meeting family at O'Hara Field in Chicago on August 21.
The Butler County Selective Service Office in Allison will close Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5 and 6, for a clerk on leave. It will reopen Thursday, September 7, with the usual hours. Regular hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:30 to 4:30, Friday 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:30 to 2:30. The office is closed Saturdays. Registrants have five days to register after their birthday.

Promotion exercises at the Methodist Church Sunday morning presented Bibles to Brad Cole Debbie Clark Sally Bertram and Mike Sutton as they moved from Elementary Two to Elementary Three.
Forty five members of the Greene Education Association met at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Thursday morning for a workshop and breakfast. L F Bachman gave the invocation and Georgine Austin introduced the teachers. John Van Eschen welcomed the group and Helene Boller delivered faculty greetings. Harold Blosser led a song and breakfast was served by Mrs Harold Schoenfeld and Mrs Dell Curtis.
The Greene Community School District holds its regular election on Monday September 11. One board seat from Scott and Benidet te townships is up for election. Galen Miller current member from the area has filed for re election. Others must obtain nomination blanks from the school secretary and file by 12 00 noon on Friday September 1.

Private First Class Ewing J. Miller age 22, son of Mrs Faber Miller of Greene, earned the Army Parachutist Badge on August 9 after completing Infantry School three week airborne course at Fort Benning Georgia. His training included five jumps from a C 130 at 170 mph at 1250 feet along with strenuous physical conditioning.
J M Bruce of Greene representing Farmers Incorporated Cooperative Society attended the annual Directors Clinic of the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa in Des Moines on Tuesday August 22. Over 500 directors and guests joined workshops on cooperative problems and heard speakers including Dr Robert Strain Arg ie Hall Neal E Smith and others discuss merger growth and farm bills.
California Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Squires has just returned from Da Nang where he served a tour as a field radio communications operator with the First Marine Division. He now lives with his wife and son in San Clemente while on duty at Camp Pendleton.
Mr and Mrs Charles Barney of Perry Missouri and their family returned home Monday after spending the past week at the home of Mrs Grace Barnhart the Barney's mother in law.
Greene Fire Department was dispatched at 1 50 p m Thursday to extinguish a fire in an asphalt truck near the Elementary School. The blaze centered on the auxiliary motor and wiring burn damage noted before extinguishment. A second call came from the Verlyn Schrage farm southwest of Greene about 6 15 p m Saturday to put out a fire in an old machine shed, reportedly sparked by an intentionally burned house nearby.
Army Private John J. Henning, 20, of Greene, with parents John H. and Mrs. Henning and wife Susan, completed an eight week administration course at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri on August 24. The program covered preparation of military records and forms, Army filing fundamentals, typing, and operation of office machines.
Round Grove Golf and Country Club schedules a Labor Day program on Monday September 4. Events begin at 9 a.m. with a men shot gun tournament including a flag hole and longest drive. A potluck dinner follows at 12:30 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. the men and women 2-ball foursome tournament takes place.

Dennis R. Hansen USN Seaman Apprentice and husband of Barbara Eggert of Charles City was aboard the DuPont destroyer offshore near the Demilitarized Zone when enemy shore batteries fired on the ship. No injuries or damage reported though mortar fire landed about 75 yards from the stern. The Dupont, flagship for Commander Destroyer Squadron Two, provided gunfire and duties ashore.
Mr and Mrs Roland Kingery and family departed by plane Sunday for San Antonio Texas following a three week stay with his mother Ila Kingery. The couple also completed a twelve day tour of the Orient visiting Tokyo Hong Kong Bangkok Thailand Philippines Manila and Honolulu.

The public library closed its children's summer reading program with 53 readers registered and 1081 books read. Clayton K. Behnke, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph C Behnke of Greene, joined about 6000 National Guardsmen from Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa for annual summer training August 4 to 20 at Fort Carson Colorado. The 67th Infantry Brigade conducted mortar artillery firing and infantry training culminating in a three day field exercise. Behnke is married to Cora who resides at 934 S 29th St Omaha Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs Harry Backer spent last week sightseeing at Niagara Falls Ontario and at Allegheny State Forest in Pennsylvania.
