Fire destroys Greene Elevator at Farmers Inc
Fire destroyed the Greene elevator at Farmers Inc. in Greene last week causing an estimated 500000 dollars in losses. The automatic sprinkler system operated but could not contain the blaze. About 100000 bushels of grain, mostly corn, were inside the 150000 bushel capacity structure. The fire occurred after welding work near the area above the elevator, with firefighters assessing blast danger as gear moved grain and equipment to trucks.
