Gaithersburg Maryland resident Cited at discharge from Active Duty HM2 Lonnie O Noel was released from active duty and transferred to the Navy Reserves. He received a Letter of Commendation from Acting CO Captain L G Dickson after a year with the Naval Medical Research Institute in Washington DC where he helped pilot a sickle cell detection study. He earned a Letter of Appreciation from Surgeon General Vice Admiral Custis a year earlier. He will attend Palomar College in San Marcos and plans to live in Escondido after leaving Aug 12 following a week at home.

Funeral services for Henry Kielman 32 rural Clarksville farmer were held Saturday at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Greene. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville. He was born October 13 1921 in Greene, son of George and Tilleen Kielman, married Maxine Hahn in Bristow October 13 1942, and they farmed in the Greene area for the last 18 years.

Grace Weiland daughter of Richard and Maggie Bloom Menken was born October 1 1890 in Ostfriesland Germany and died August 8 1974 at Franklin General Hospital Hampton aged 83 years 10 months and some days. Dennis Peters II named Greene Chief of Police by mayor
Dennis G. Peters was named the new Greene Chief of Police by the mayor on June 17 and has been on duty since. He and his wife Janice moved into the Tefft home after relocating from Marcus with their 3-year-old son William Lee. Peters, a La Porte City native, served in the Army 1967-69, worked as a truck driver and later joined Marcus Police, earning FBI credentials and completing a 10-week Sheldon Police Academy course. He moved to Greene in June amid the Kojak nickname from local kids. Sister Carla Popes earned a Master of Arts from St Marys College Winona and will teach in Algona this fall.
