The Marble Rock Garden Club runs low cost meals for seniors on the fourth Friday at the Community Center. Attendance ranged from 30 to 78 this summer with 31 last Friday and six shut ins delivered by the Union Bass Brees 4-H club. Meals cost 1.00 and are prepared in members homes due to a broken Community Center stove.
Butler County Health Improvement Ass under the Board of Directors and the American Heart Association sponsor 12 free blood pressure screening clinics for residents aged 20 and over. A registered nurse will take readings and offer counseling at multiple locations on specified September dates and times.
Butler County 4 H members placed in the Iowa State Fair exhibits in home improvement food and nutrition clothing and science and mechanics and arts. Nearly 2 500 exhibits were judged before the fair opening. Miss Lila Marie Schnee 79 of Greene died Sun Aug 25 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. Born Apr 15 1895 in Greene Dayton Township Butler County to Otto and Martha Schnee. She attended Dayton Township Schools later moved to Greene. Preceded in death by parents six brothers. Survivors include cousins Martha Schnee Greene and others. Funeral services Aug 27 Reid's Funeral Chapel Greene, burial Rose Hill Cemetery, officiants Rev Frevert and Rev Wahl.
Adult activity tickets go on sale for Greene High School athletics. A pod covers 12 regular season events for 12 dollars, with 21 football basketball and wrestling events to choose from. Senior Citizens Pass for 5 dollars grants access to 21 events for 65 and over. Tickets available at First State Bank Drake's Sneed's Insurance and the high school office, and at the Sept 6 game versus Allison Bristow.
The Greene Quarterback Club meets Monday September 2 at 6 30 p m on the football field to prepare the field for the first home game Friday September 6 at 7 30 p m with Allison Bristow. Come prepared.
The Senior Girl Scouts will pick up newspapers for the Paper Drive this Saturday morning, August 31, starting at 10 a.m. Please have them at the curb before this time. Rural residents are asked to leave papers at the Pooley Building behind Rath's Buying Station.
David M. Jensen of Clarksville Iowa won the 11th annual Iowa Cookout King contest at the Des Moines State Fair on August 21, grilling barbe cued pork chops and earning 25 dollars. Butler County's Russell DeBower of Allison claimed second place in the pork division, with Steve Schrage also entering from Butler County among 39 outdoor chefs competing.
Ulrike Scheel a 15 year old from State Germany arrived Aug 21 to live with the Leo Landers family in Greene as Greene YFU student. She started classes at Greene High School and traveled from Hamburg with the Landers meeting her at Mason City airport.
The Greene Elementary School announces a pilot School Volunteer Program led by Principal Dave Else. Volunteers, limited to six initially, will assist teachers, enhance home school communication, and support individual student needs with interviews and orientation offered at 823-5629.

A Walkathon to support the Greene Way Station is set for Saturday August 31 starting at 1 pm. Children and adults collect sponsor pledges for Camp Comfort, with cards available Friday night at the Way Station or beforehand at the Recorder. A post event picnic will be held in Perrin Park with music planned.
Butler County Republicans will host a fundraising dinner on September 11 at the Communis Center in Greene with former governor Robert D Ray as the speaker. Other county and district office candidates will be introduced. tickets are available from precinct committee people and central committee officers.

The Butler County 4-H dairy cattle judging team finished 10th of 19 at the 1974 State 4-H dairy judging contest held at the Iowa State Fair. Members Dave Bolin Pam Jensen Stanley Meyer and Rita Wilken. coached by Dale Thoreson. They placed 4th in Ayrshires and 4th in Jerseys with Stanley Meyer 4th in Guernseys.
