After a brief enforcement drive last week the Greene council informally repealed the 18 month old no pickup parking ordinance. Citizens had requested delays for safety comments and local response suggested near misses rather than clear accidents.
The Lowell Lundstrom Gospel team from Liseton D will present a rally Friday August 16 at 8 p m in the Allison Bristow high school gym The Rev Lowell Lundstrom leads a group that has toured five years and produced 350 songs They have recorded 13 LPs at RCA Nashville with members Connie Larry Gloria Leon and Billy Simmons.
U S Secretary of Agriculture Earl L Butz will headline a Grassley for Congress fundraiser barbecue on Sept 6 at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds in Marshalltown. Proceeds benefit State Rep Charles Grassley, Third District candidate for Congress. Tickets are $10 and available from Grassley for Congress offices in Parkersburg and from local coordinators.
The calendar lists Ladies' Day on Wednesday August 14, a Family Picnic on Thursday August 15, Men’s Night on Tuesday August 20, and Ladies' Stagette on Wednesday August 21 in the afternoon.
Nearly 900 projects by Floyd County 4-H girls were exhibited across clothing foods and nutrition home improvement knitting and crocheting at last week’s County Fair. May Johnson noted high quality displays while judges Sally Van Wert Jan Brown and May DeLage evaluated entries. Blue ribbon winners were named in clothing textiles home improvement food and nutrition and knitting classes.
Greene School schedule and back to school sale ads headline the issue with a feature on Grace Anderson. Auction notes appear on page eight while Grocer Ads occupy page five and a farmers supplement runs on pages seven and ten.
CRD members raised 33.57 for muscular dystrophy at a carnival on Aug 6 after a potluck for CRD members and families. Seven skill and luck booths were run by named volunteers with gate and ride activities, under supervision by Rodney Beck. The event included a horse ride brought by Claire Nettleton and a separate ride ticketing.
El-Bar Lanes changes hands with new owners Ron Innes of Marble Rock and Gary Schmidt of Greene. Open bowling starts Monday August 19 with league play August 26. Hours are 5 pm daily with weekend matinees and evenings. Innes, a machinist at Oliver, resides with wife Jane in Marble Rock and has three children and a grandchild. Schmidt, an electronics technician at Mel’s TV in Greene, is a Allison native and Ellsworth alum.
The Monday Night Bowling League and the Bowling Association set annual meetings for Wednesday August 21 at 8 p.m. at E Bar Lanes in Greene to organize for the upcoming season.
The Butler County Bicentennial Committee met at Allison City Hall on August 7 with representatives from six communities. Muna Woodley was elected permanent chairman and Shirley Rozendaal secretary as plans to organize a county Bicentennial group progressed.
Teague announces a group meeting for the Alley Cats and Rollers on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at M&M Eugene Downing hosts. Timothy Wade Downing, born August 11 at Waverly hospital weighs 3 pounds 15 ounces and has a brother Steven Michael. Grandparents Louis Downing and George Luchtenburg Jr. of Allison, great grandmothers Dora Senne and George Luchtenburg Sr. of Allison.
Mrs Marvin Barth Sr of Allison was discharged from Charles City hospital Saturday after observation and treatment. The Coldwater Community Club plans a family potluck picnic at Conservation Park on August 22 at 6 30 p.m.
Special services at the Bennedette Wesleyan Church near Aredale invite attendance in August 2025. Rev Henry Vanderbush of Bushnell SD and Mrs Vanderbush will lead studies on Bible prophecies with music and bells by Mrs Vanderbush. Evening services run Tue to Sat at 8 pm with Sunday sessions and a Q and A time, followed by coffee. Church location is 1 mile east of Aredale and 4 miles south and 7 miles west of Greene.
