Iowa tax plan would tax 27 percent of value state wide
The Iowa tax commission will equalize valuations using a base of not less than 27 percent of actual value. The plan was announced to officials from the Town State Association of Assessors. A house valued at 10 000 would be assessed at 2 700 and taxed by millage accordingly. The assessor group seeks a specialist in industrial property assessment. In Polk County four year evaluations raise questions about two identical apartment units with an 85 000 differential in assessments by Associated Surveys of Iowa. Eric Merrill said the lower assessed unit may have been underpraised and underassessed. The Iowa State Fair adds a Charolais cattle division after a request by the Iowa Charolais Association. The Fair opens August 20.
