Football Boys Meet Thurs Night At High School

Max Dougherty announced a Thursday night meeting for all football players including freshmen at 7 30 in the high school gym. Players should bring a pencil and notebook paper. Equipment checkout is scheduled for Monday with exams set for August 17 at 7 30 p.m.

Gene Viers was admitted to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Sunday and had surgery Monday morning. Fred Drake was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Mason City for treatment on Monday.

Third District Teenage Republican Rally on August 21

The 3rd District Teenage Republican Rally will be held August 21 at the Methodist Camp in Clear Lake with Senator Jack Miller as featured speaker. The event, sponsored by the Young Republicans of the district, includes registration lunch workshops swimming barbeque and adjournment with four discussions led by Iowa Republicans and former state leaders.

County School Board Election to be Held

Elections to the Butler County Board of Education will be held Monday September 13 1965. Terms expire on the first Monday in October. Burton Sprole Allison area voters and Mrs James Graven Greene area voters seek re election. Nomination papers with 25 signatures due August 23 1965 at the Butler County Superintendent's Office. Six year terms. vacancies filled by appointment until next odd numbered year election.

Little Leaguers Attend Minneapolis Twins Game

One hundred seven Greene Little Leaguers rode three buses to Minneapolis Minnesota on Monday August 2 for a Twins Baltimore game that became a thriller. The Twins led 5 to 2 in the seventh before two singles and a homer tied it. Jim Hall batted for the pitcher in the Twins half and hit an opposite field homer to win.

North Iowa Fair Opens with Chuck Wagon Races in Mason City

The 1965 North Iowa Fair in Mason City announces grandstand attraction Chuck Wagon Races. Secretary Hans Henriksen says the events will be held Saturday August 14 at 6 00 p m and Sunday August 15 at 2 00 p m with strong public demand bringing them back after two years.

Sidewalk Day Planned in Greene

The Greene merchants plan a Sidewalk Day on Saturday August 28 from 8 30 am to 9 pm featuring rock bottom prices across stores. Free swimming at the new community pool will accompany the event with a registration booth on Main Street for cash drawings at 10 am 3 pm and 8 pm awarding $25 and $18 for adults and $10 for children.

Former Resident Injured in Accident Near Dunkerton

Dale S. Ritter of Waterloo, formerly of Greene, is hospitalized at Schoitz Memorial after a dump truck left County Road H about 1 1/2 miles north of Dunkerton last Thursday night. He, 47, suffered a broken leg six broken ribs and multiple contusions.

County fair sale nets 156 baby beeves at 40245 dollars

The annual 4 H and FFA auction at Allison fairgrounds sold 156 baby beeves for a gross of 40245.75 dollars. Average price 27.18 per cwt and an averaged weight around 949 pounds. Waverly Sales Barn bought 28 head, Haygrade Packing 15, and several banks and co-ops purchased multiple calves. Grand and reserve champions were not sold, with plans to show at Town State Fair.

Merlyn Brocka Injured in Wednesday Car Crash

Merlyn Brocka 17 son of Mr and Mrs Melvin Brocka Greene was seriously hurt in a 6 45 am Wednesday collision near Oelwein. He drove a 1938 Ford with passengers when it struck head on a West Union car driven by Harry Walton. Brocka suffered two hand injuries a broken left hip and internal injuries. He was taken to Oelwein Hospital and Saturday transferred to the University of Iowa City. Patrol cited improper passing.
