The Greene Community pool opening drew 949 paid adults and about 360 children in the wading pool last Thursday. The editor notes broad appeal across ages and urges practical solutions from critics while warning against excessive government handouts.

Grace Barnhart returned home Saturday after a month in Storm Lake. Her sister Mrs. Fred Strickler was treated for a severe coronary attack at Buena Vista hospital and is progressing. Mr Strickler, critically ill, was also hospitalized and will remain for care. The Stricklers are former Greene residents.

Mr and Mrs Harlan Martzahn announce the birth of a son on Sunday July 25 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City. The baby weighs 8 pounds 4 ounces and has been named Michael Scott.
Michael M Dolan 17 of Decorah died in a two car crash near Manchester at 7 45 p m Sunday. Roger Armstrong 20 Cedar Rapids and Stephen Kinkead 18 Whittier drove the other cars. Armstrong was hospitalized with a neck fracture and cuts. Kinkead bruised but not hospitalized. Two Armstrong passengers and several others were treated. Dolan was son of Dr and Mrs Robert Dolan. Requiem Mass set for 9 30 am Wednesday at Decorah Catholic Church.
Russell Meyers was taken to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City Thursday where he underwent back surgery Friday. Mrs. Dale McRoberts is a patient in Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City where she underwent major surgery Friday morning.
Greene and Nashua advanced to the Babe Ruth tournament semifinals at Rudd after decisive Monday wins. Greene routed Rockford Warriors 10 to 0 via four innings, with Rick Siemens a triple, Brunsma and Johnson doubling, and Stuntz and Shultz combining on a two hitter. Nashua upset Rudd 7 to 4 to claim its first win in 16 games. Semis: Nashua vs Nora Springs at 6:00 p.m., Greene vs Marble Rock at 7:30 p.m.
Playground supervisor Miss Sharon Nixt announces no display this week due to low attendance. Children work on wall plaques dolls and painted figurines this final week with helpers Mrs Keith Drakle Mrs Loren Mc Roberts Laura Hamilton Ann Hansen and Jeanette Tefft assisting.
A stag supper is announced to take place at the Country Club on Thursday night, July 26. The event invites local members to attend and enjoy an evening gathering.
The Little League Babe Ruth team and players from the local Tuesday night league will attend the Twins Baltimore game in Minneapolis on Monday August 2nd. Buses depart the bus barn at 8:00 am and players should bring a sack lunch. Tickets are funded by the farmer businessmen softball game. Fathers may accompany if they notify Jerry Eimers soon.
Mrs Velma McSpadin of Greene fractured two bones in her right wrist after a fall late Tuesday afternoon. The fracture was set at Flord County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City. She is recuperating at home.
Low water levels and high air temperatures have stopped rainbow trout stocking in marginal northeast Iowa streams. Officials said stocking will resume only after rainfall increases stream flow or temperatures drop, possibly after Labor Day. Streams in good condition continue to be stocked.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Butzlaff of Charles City announce the birth of a son, Todd S, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday in July. The baby weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Scott Butzlaff and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Greene.
Doris Butler of Eugene visited her parents Mr and Mrs Garth Butler and her brother Rev John G Butler in Detroit Michigan. She resigned from Sacred Heart General Hospital in Eugene after seven and a half years. She served as assistant director then director of nursing services and will join the faculty at Aten Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Waterloo starting August 9.
Little League clinched the title with 13 wins and unknown losses as Babe Ruth sealed second by beating Nashua 5 to 2 for an 11 4 season. Marble Rock faced Nora Springs for a shot at second while Greene relied on Wendy Stuntz pitching and timely hitting from Doug Trees and Dick Stuntz for late runs.

Frank Kingery 76, born April 23 1889 in rural Butler County, died after a long illness. Funeral services conducted at the Church of the Brethren in Greene with Rev Darrel Fryman and Rev Gerald Mense officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge. Survivors include son Walter of Rockford a daughter Mrs Elwin Schuknecht of Greene and many grandchildren. siblings and extended family noted.
Mrs. Fred Ennen underwent surgery Tuesday morning at the Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
The 199th Butler County Fair opens Thursday in Allison and runs through Sunday featuring a horse show Saturday afternoon, horse events for youth, calf scramble and greased pig contests, free pony rides, and a Miss Butler County pageant with entries from Greene Allison Dumont Kesley Rock Parkersburg Bristow Ireton and Aredale. A professional wrestling program closes Saturday night with three matches and an all star card.
A 1965 Chevrolet auto will be raffled after a tractor pull Sunday evening. Tickets are distributed to Butler County business firms, with two grand prize tickets drawn Friday, two more on Sunday, and cash prizes of at least $10 for ten other ticket holders. Tractor classes include A through D by weight, open to Butler County residents, with top class winners advancing to the Iowa State Fair pull.
The Greene Recorder will be closed from August 2 through August 4 as staff takes final vacation. Arrangements for pre production are planned for the week of July 26 with the regular July 28 issue and July 30 issue. Mail date remains August 4. Advertisers must submit one copy by Friday morning July 30.
Butler County savings bonds reported June sales of 31,062 dollars for Series E and H, raising six month total to 331,756 dollars or 39 percent of the 1965 quota. Iowa sales in June totaled 7,451,100 dollars, with a six month state total of 58,459,622 dollars at 51 percent of the 1965 goal.
Three Girl Scouts Carolin Kehoe Margeret Senne and Ann Rottler attend Sand Point Round-Up Idaho report a wonderful time. Highlights include a large arena welcome with about 12000 attendees and 860 girls in uniform, a flag ceremony with 356 flags raised, and songs led by Lucian Smith. They also joined demonstrations discussions trading posts and a 3000 acre encampment view plus a potlatching ceremonial living of small gifts with new friends.
Mr and Mrs Warne Thomason and family attended the Lake View boat races on Sunday. Terry Thomason raced in multiple events earning two seconds in A Utility two seconds in B Hydroplane a second in B Utility and a third in A Hydroplane.
Mr and Mrs Theodore Brink recently returned from a seventeen day tour of the East. They visited Ford's Museum, Greenville Village in Detroit, Niagara Falls, New York City, the World’s Fair, Washington D C, the John F Kennedy Grave at Arlington Cemetery, and Gettysburg Pennsylvania. In New York they visited relatives in Newark and toured the Jackson Perkins Rose Garden.
