Four Children Reach Moon in Reading Program

Four more young readers in the summer reading program reach the moon. Participants named include Dianne Carney Donna Carney Sally Ackley Carolyn Sehraeder and the Bennetts Margueritte Colleen Bennet are daughters of the Scout Camp director from Eagle Grove. Carolyn resumes a new moon trip while the Bennetts and Camp staff attend town events at the Thursday afternoon story hour.

Baptists Met for Fellowship Time at Bethel Church

Bethel Baptist Church members gathered Monday evening for their monthly Fellowship Time. Rev and Mrs A Van Benschoten hosted the event and Ruth Van Benschoten presented colored slides of Birmingham Alabama and the southeastern states. The audience saw flower scenes and a Florida smudge pot close-up.

Lucille Lines Attends Ames School Lunch Course

Mrs. Lucille Lines, cook at Marble Rock School lunch program, returned from a one week school lunch short course at Iowa State University in Ames. Ninety one cooks attended from across the state. She studied menu planning, food prep, sanitation, records, storage, equipment, and community relations while attending demonstrations. The course was sponsored by Iowa State University Institution Management Department and the Iowa Lunch Division of the Department of Public Instruction.

Lion's Club Elects Officers for 1965 66

The Marble Rock Lion's Club elected officers for the coming year. Arnold Haller is president with Arnold Staudt Alfred Grahiman and Paul Bucklen as 1st 2nd and 3rd vice presidents. Bruce Goss is secretary, Ralph Beane treasurer, Leroy Kingery lion tamer, Galen Lines tail twister. Directors include Weldon Salt Mel Bruggeman for 1965 66, Lawrence Morriss Harold Taylor 1965 67, and R D Ackley Lowell Carney 1965 68.

Bridge Club Notes From Mrs Bohl’s Home

Mrs Walter Bohl hosted the Wednesday Bridge Club with guests Mrs Walter Marsh and Mrs Weldon Salt. After a one o'clock luncheon, high honors went to Mrs Cecil Swant and second to Mrs Walter Marsh at the bridge tables.

Local families host visitors from across Iowa and Nebraska

Marble Rock locals hosted numerous relatives and friends from Mora Loma California to Winnebago, Nebraska and beyond. Distinct visits included Bernadette Ruth from St Paul, Thomas Water from Winemore, Patty and George Bohlmeyer with grandparents, and Rev. Van Benschoten from Derby Kansas. Additional guests came from Mason City, Grafton, Nora Springs, Tulsa and Spirit Lake. Extended stays occurred at Floyd County Memorial Hospital and local resorts.

Estes Park Visit Highlights Local Family Ties

A week long trip to Estes Park Colorado included companionship with sister and brother in law Mr and Mrs Carroll Hall of Brookings South Dakota. Their daughters Dawn and Lisa stayed with aunt and uncle Bill Fluhrer in Charles City while grandparents Walter and Marion Marsh hosted at Marble Rock. Months later guests gathered for Marble Rock High School Class of 1955 anniversary events en route to family visits in Iowa Falls Waterloo Cedar Rapids and Floyd.
