Fuels Used for Cooking Purposes in Indiana Rural Homes
Woman cooks on coal and wood stoves spend about three hours weekly on stove care. Those using electricity spend under thirty minutes. The Purdue bulletin notes electricity saves labor despite higher operating costs. With more rural electrification, more farm kitchens will switch to electric cooking. It suggests using steam pressure or waterless cookers to save fuel and reduce costs.
