Work on New Landing Field to Start Soon

The engineer in charge of conditioning the Government Emergency landing Field southeast of town received bids for grading and seeding. Work on field conditioning and the lighting system will begin immediately. Materials for the lighting have been delivered at the field.

Drivers with No Plates Fined by City Officials

Fred Williams a 30 year old showman was fined 11 for operating a motor vehicle without proper license after being taken into custody on the National road near Greencastle. Orus Southern of south Greencastle also paid 1 in city court for improper license as authorities noted recent similar cases involving transfers and plate status.

Two Arrests From Late Saturday Greencastle Wrecks

Two wrecks Saturday night in Greencastle led to reckless driving charges against Russell Cartwright of South Greencastle and Professor J. B. Hankins of Terre Haute. Cartwright was fined one dollar and costs and sentenced to the Indiana State Farm for thirty days, suspended if damages to Orvis Skinner’s car are paid. Hankins faced additional charges for operating a vehicle without a driver's license.

Butler Tops Northwood Summer Golf Field

Frank Butler posted the lowest qualifying score of 77 at the Northwood Golf Course summer tourney. Death claims aged resident of Greencastle

Elder Jasper Dalby, 75, died Sunday afternoon at his son Edward Dalby’s home in Greencastle. Funeral planned Tuesday at 2 PM in Edward Dalby’s residence with Elder J Goble and Rev William Crowder officiating. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Dalby, a Putnam County resident since 1845, leaves one son Edward Henry Dalby and several descendants. Previously a Primitive Baptist minister, he last preached Feb 22 in Danville. Also noted death of Ray Leon, infant son of Mr and Mrs Leon Trout of Poland, buried Wilkinson cemetery near Poland.

Greencastle Water Works was assessed today for 55000 by the Putnam County Board of Review. The contract for the postures was re let to Mr Holmes of Terre Haute. W O Watts of Arkansas, who moved from Greencastle twenty years ago, returned last evening and was confused as to directions due to many changes. Knife Slayer Sentenced to State Prison

Fay Williams a 5 war veteran fatally stabbed his sister Ruth Williams. Circuit Judge Hutchison sentenced Williams to life in prison for murder in the second degree. Sheriff Tiffee transported Williams to Michigan City for confinement. Williams pleaded guilty and stated he did not recall harming his sister.

Greencastle Merchant's baseball team defeated Hymera 11 to 8 at Linedale Park.
