Cottonseed meal and straw ration for livestock
Professor C N Arnett of Montana State College outlines a cottonseed meal and straw feeding plan to winter cattle. For a 1000-pound steer, 1.75 to 2 pounds of cottonseed meal daily supply protein while straw provides carbohydrate. Cost estimates approximate eight cents a day per steer, plus straw. For cows 1200 to 1400 pounds, 2.5 pounds of meal recommended, with bran additive to aid intake. Ensure salt and water, shelter, and access to straw.
