Lectures by Prof R M Washburn University of Minnesota and demos at Park County Creamery. High Cost of Living Sets Record in August

Washington reports that retail food prices rose 1 percent in August from July, marking a record high despite a government campaign to curb costs. Increases hit eggs, rice, potatoes, milk, pork chops, butter, cheese, coffee, dry beans, sugar and bread, while declines occurred for sirloin and round steak, rib roast, onions, bacon, flour, cabbage and canned peas.

Stevensville Fire Destroys Business District

Missoula reports Stevensville 26 miles south suffered a severe attic fire at the town’s hotel. By nightfall three quarters of the business section was wiped out as a strong wind hampered efforts. Fourteen store buildings burned with losses around 250000 dollars. Origin unknown. Most residents were at Hamilton for Ravalli county fair. Only about a dozen local men fought the blaze until aid arrived from nearby ranches.
