Miss Edna Wall oversees the department inviting items from individuals, churches, and organizations, while Box's hall hosts Gyp the Heiress by Grawn youths and many townsfolk attend various newsworthy occurrences and weddings in May.
Miss Mae Dewey of the Fife Lake Department asks churches fraternal groups and the Grange to send items of interest for inclusion. News of social events entertainments improvements and business changes are welcome from the village and surrounding countryside for publication in the Herald.
Northport Michigan growers trialed a cooperative apple marketing plan. Packing rules require Fancy No 1 and No 2 grades with strict size color and defect standards. Growers sign agreements, ship under the association label, and settlements go through the association.
Returns from country conventions show Woodrow Wilson sweeping to victory with 441 votes to control the state convention. Roosevelt holds 441 total with eight state convention votes. Taft gains 3. Harmon and Clark trail as Wilson gains all uninstructed delegates.
Independence May 8 Roosevelt sentiment dominated the Kansas Republican State convention as four delegates at large to the Chicago national convention were chosen. Since the candidacy began Roosevelt's lead was clear, with county conventions and primaries affirming a Roosevelt majority and ensuring a Chicago delegation.
Bryan declares Harmon the Wall Street favorite for the presidential nomination and a defeat for Harmon would end his candidacy. He urges Democratic voters to reject Harmon on May 21 and praises Governor Woodrow Wilson.
Washington reports fifty million dollars in agricultural damage and more looming as Mississippi flood toll rises. War department has spent six hundred thousand on food for the destitute and will need seven hundred thousand more. Congress has appropriated one and a quarter million with two million more likely. Red Cross appeals have not met the usual response.
Mrs. Ernest Colton died Sunday at Mrs. Hardy's hospital at 4 50 pm after an April 26 stomach surgery. Born March 3 18th in Paradise Grand Traverse county Mich she is survived by husband Ernest Colton and others including James Riley and Malvine Roop. Burial was April 30 at Wood Cemetery. Also mentions spring flower gardens planted by Frank Paine at Cass Street Board of Trade office.
William J. Bryan's Toledo visit drew likely the largest Toledo crowd of his Ohio trip. He pressed attacks on Governor Harmon’s presidential candidacy, elaborating statements across several stops. Three new automobiles grace town from unnamed sponsors. Mr and Mrs Samuel Beal return from winter in Toledo. Eugene Fisher's Teal boat wintered at Carp Lake then moved to Lake Michigan then to South Maniton. he married Isabel Bantz by L I Sheridan and left for South Maniton. Alr Peterson and Charles Thle visit the North Manitou lightship. May 6.
Elmer Harrell moves seasonally to C Rd West farm while Mrs. Alice Sanger visits. John and Nora Miller visit relatives as the Sanger goods move to Thomasonville. Several residents travel to Cedar Run Kingsley Ludington and Moose Jaw in pursuit of work or family visits. A light sighting near Five Mile Corners unsettles Lee Kroshaw and J Lampkin. no pursuit. Wedding bells and matrimony rumors abound as farm folk plan summer activity.
