Made Long Tour by Miss Elizabeth Roebuck in Pratt Car

Miss Elizabeth Roebuck drove from Fort Wayne Indiana to St Ignace in a Pratt automobile Thursday part of a motor tour. She was joined by Wilbur Long foreman of a St Ignace area farm owned by Roebuck. Roebuck owns an eighty acre irrigated farm near Fort Wayne. Both farms are in cultivation with Indiana crops for early markets and St Ignace crops for late in the year. Roebuck, a motoring enthusiast, may be the first to undertake such a tour in the area this year.

Campaign to Fund Western Michigan Road Improvements

The June 3 referenda in Charlevoix County will decide a 350000 dollar bond issue to improve main highways. After April votes to adopt county road systems and bond for better roads in Kent and Ottawa, Grand Traverse pushes ahead under Frank Hamilton’s leadership to accelerate road work in the region.

Mrs Bert Ward First Woman To Return With Brook Trout In Traverse City

Mrs Bert Ward earned the distinction of the year’s first Traverse City angler to return with a fine catch of brook trout. She left Tuesday for Platte river to prepare for an early start, fished most of Wednesday, and returned with forty speckled trout weighing about fifteen pounds. She says it was her best time ever.

Former Resident Dead in Traverse City

The Richmond Michigan Review notes the death of Alfred E. Waterloo at 183 years old. A former Traverse City resident, his family once lived on Washington Street. His daughter Emma married C. E. Greene, who worked in the post office long ago under Postmaster Bates. The Waterloo family was highly esteemed and many locals remember them fondly.

Store Destroyed at Provemont Fire

Fire at midnight Saturday destroyed the general merchandise store owned by Egler and Putman in Provemont. Nearby buildings faced danger until telephonist Miss Amelia Schaub notified neighbors and farmers, enabling a bucket brigade to limit damage. The store, partially insured, sustained substantial losses.

Fine New Cruiser Craft Built With Care for Comfort

Yone the new raised deck cruiser of Fred D Curtis was launched Saturday afternoon. Curtis built near his home and supervised construction for best workmanship. Tone is thirty five feet long with nine foot beam and a 15-20 horsepower Holliday motor. Finished in mahogany inside and out, it seats four and includes all safety devices for easy handling. Deck controls, underwater exhaust, self ballast, and easy engine access are featured. Tone should reach over eight miles per hour and offers family pleasure.

The Grand Traverse grange will meet Saturday afternoon May 11 to discuss better prices for Grand Traverse Fruits. Two business men who studied the issue will attend and share observations aimed at helping farmers secure bigger returns for their efforts in later meetings throughout the year.

Death of August Bragar After Six Months Illness

August Bragar aged 19 son of Mr and Mrs Albert Bragar of 537 Second Street died Wednesday night after a six month illness with tuberculosis. He had been in hospital two months and was brought home last week. He leaves two brothers and three sisters, all residing in the city or nearby country.
