Death of Pioneer John D. Dell of Munising

George Dell of 629 West Eighth street received a telegram Wednesday announcing the death of his father John D. Dell a pioneer of the Grand Traverse region. He came in the early 1900s settled near Walton and later lived with his daughters in Munising. Surviving are five children two sons George and Robert and three daughters. Remains will be brought here for funeral services from the home of George Dell with date to be announced.

Traverse City Post Office Addition Aims for July Bids

Postmaster Frank Friedrich reports a letter from Congressman F H Dodds indicating the Traverse City postoffice addition is moving quickly. Plans will be completed and bids sought by July 1 with construction expected in early August. Currently 20000 dollars are available, and an additional 30000 dollars is included in a bill to be acted on this session. The completed project will make Traverse City host to one of the state finest government buildings regardless of city size.

Apple Show To Return In Grand Rapids Coliseum

A Grand Rapids meeting with Association of Commerce and Western Michigan Development bureau officials chose Grand Rapids to host the next apple show in the Coliseum during the second week in November. The promoters aim to expand the display with new farm products and to outdo last year’s exhibit. Officers elected: President Carral F. Sweet, Vice President D. Tf. Day, and Manager John T. Gibson.

Funeral for John H Dell Held in Munising

Funeral services for John H. Dell were conducted Saturday at Hughes parlors with interment in Oakwood. Dell died Tuesday evening at his Munising home, leaving a widow and his invalid son among surviving relatives. He was a charter member of Tempest lodge 62 at Walton, later joining Otto lodge 124 at Kingsler, and then lodge 468 in Munising, holding five representative certificates and active in meetings.

Rumors circulate that friends may push his name for the Republican presidential nomination if Taft Roosevelt deadlock at Chicago convention occurs, though he has shown little public political activity and now concentrates on the Methodist general conference where he is a leading layman.

D. H. Day and John Gibson left for Grand Rapids to discuss holding the Second Michigan Land and Apple Show in November under the Development Bureau. Home Wedding of Miss Lovina Sieger and Elmer J Bagner

The ceremony took place yesterday at the Sieger home with Father Sheehan of the Church of Immaculate Conception officiating. Miss Lovina Sieger wore white messaline with lace and carried a rose bouquet. maid of honor Miss Lottie Hochng wore pink silk with carnations. best man was Leonard Fox sie. Afterward the bridal party traveled to the Siegers country home for a relatives-only wedding supper. The couple will reside on South Bohemia Street after May 15.

Close call on rail crossing spares two riders

Wesley Herriman and B P Burns narrowly escaped serious harm when their Herriman owned car stalled on the G R and L track near Eighth street as a spur train approached. Herriman accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, forcing them to leap free. The car sustained rear damage with two wheels smashed.

Death of Sylvester Olney at age two in Traverse City

Sylvester Olney aged two died at his home 458 West Ninth Street about 11 o’clock Friday night after a long illness. He had lived in Traverse City about eight years and is survived by his widow. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2 50 conducted by Rev W J Coates of the Asbury M E church.

Good Fruit Crop Expected Around Lake Michigan Shores

Frankfort Michigan May 11 inspection of orchards near Lake Michigan shores indicates a good fruit crop barring late spring frosts. Apples and sour cherries are in excellent winter condition and peach trees with good air drainage should yield fairly. The Big Paul Rose orchards are in surprisingly good condition. Peach crop in other parts of the county is largely ruined, prompting plans for high prices and big profits.

Poultry Farm Owner Visits Western Michigan Office

J Ro McMurtry proprietor of Fruitbel Poultry farm near Ludington visited the Western Michigan Development bureau seeking information. He arrived from Waterloo Iowa last fall with high bred birds and expects 1500 to 1900 birds by fall. He imported an incubator from Humidity Regulator Company while in the city.
