If You Steal This Dog You May Go To Penitentiary

In assessing taxes in this district Bill Davis notes cases of human nature. A man valued a small red and white dog at 75 dollars, though the dog lacked pedigree and had little market value. The law says theft under 50 dollars is a misdemeanor, while theft over carries a penitentiary sentence. Another taxpayer asked if schools get tax money. the answer is one dollar per one hundred valuation. The man offered to add one thousand dollars, hoping more funds reach the local school.
