A nine year old Martin Currans of Emmetsburg died of spinal meningitis while his 11 year old brother Donald was ill with the same disease and recovery remained doubtful. The Currans family home is with grandparents. Ruthven rumors of an epidemic were unfounded and St Marys School in Emmetsburg closed temporarily due to cases.

A Tuesday morning blaze leveled the five story Central Trust Co. building erected in 1902 and once deemed fire proof. The structure valued at 180000 with a 90000 mortgage and 160000 insurance burned as firefighters battled eight nearby blazes, including a Bloom department store basement fire nearby. The J C Penny Co occupied the first floor with recent remodeling and fixtures costs, while other offices housed various tenants.

Mrs. Williams sued Higgins for breach of promise in Ottumwa. Judge Coyle dismissed the case last week after clearing the courtroom of all spectators under 21. The plaintiff testified on her own behalf before the trial was halted.
Mrs. C. C. Rucker Dies At Coleman Hospital
Mrs. C. C. Rucker died this afternoon at Coleman hospital after ten days of serious illness. Children were summoned to her bedside as she declined. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Religious census reports local Catholic church with 537 members, 266 males and 272 females, 246 under 13 and 393 over 13. Church property value is 22,200 with 8,000 in residence and furnishings. A year’s repairs and additions created a deficit carried into 1927. Parish avoided debt during boom years.
