Plant Potatoes For Home Use In Time Of Shortage
The country faces a potato famine with uncertain conditions ahead. Last season’s crop was below the previous year, with market value down sharply. Planting an acre costs 50 to 75 dollars for seed, plus land and cultivation, totaling around 100 dollars per acre. Many farmers may switch crops. seed stock may be diverted to table use, reducing future acreage. Buyers seek seed potatoes for table stock, risking higher prices if seed supplies dwindle. Caution urges growers to plant for home use, better seed preparation, and careful cutting to extend seed. A 1 to 4 bushel planting could be worthwhile. acreage likely to shrink without a bumper crop, signaling still higher prices.
