Seek Out The Facts War Debt Resolution Debate
A fragment from a 1920s public debate argues the postwar debt issue cannot be settled by cancellation or dollar-for-dollar collection alone, but by enlightened policy and broader financial reforms.
Unbiased view on balancing war debts and trade policy
The author argues for considering all divergence factors in trade and debt policy to avoid provoking tariff walls, noting Europe export declines since 1929 are far larger than the 1992 war debt installment. Reconsideration linking war debts to unemployment and stagflation implies using facts and best judgment rather than blind argument.

Iowa Cattle Feeders Strengthen Spring Buying
Iowa cattle feeders report a 39 percent rise in feeder and stocker cattle since January 1 1938 against a year earlier. Markets show about 72 000 head shipped into Iowa in the first quarter versus 52 000 a year ago, with the spring movement below 1927-1931 averages but still above the recent year. Preference remains for light weight feeders, average weights 718 pounds for shipments to farms from four major markets.

Grain Alcohol Fuels Cars In Illinois Test Program
The Illinois Agricultural Association sponsors a voluntary test of grain alcohol mixed with gasoline at a 9 to 1 ratio, selling at 13 farm bureau stations within 50 miles of Peoria. After 60 to 90 days a survey will judge continuing use. If successful, the plan could ease gasoline demand and create a sizable market for corn. The program, supervised by state officials and prohibition inspectors, is claimed to improve acceleration, smoothness, and mileage, and to have high anti-knock value. The test aims to gauge broader adoption amid large U.S. gasoline consumption.

Judges and Wardens Clash Over Parole System Questions
The text describes ongoing disagreements between parole officials and prison authorities over crime matters. Wardens at Sing Sing resist backing a state supreme court justice who argued many criminals know better than to commit offenses. The piece hints at long-standing beliefs among seasoned trial judges that most crime is committed by individuals capable of choosing right from wrong.
