The Des Moines Register spelling contest was held at the court house in Emmetsburg Saturday. Miss Virginia Wenger of Emmetsburg won first place and Joseph Voster of Emmetsburg took second. Graettinger’s Miss Cora Christopher served as referee and Arnold Henningsen of Graettinger was a judge. The Wallingford market day sale Saturday afternoon drew a fair crowd though smaller than prior years due to two postponements and poor weather. A good selection of property sold at satisfactory prices. The Ladies Aid served dinner at noon and the Wallingford school band performed after lunch, earning praise for their talent. Frettem First In State Butter Scoring Contest
Palmer Frettem, operator at the Graettinger creamery, won first in the Educational butter scoring contest at Ames on March 10 with a score of 95. Gerrit Teese link and Rick Naaktgeboren of Boyden Iowa scored 94.75 and 94.50. Frettem has won the annual contest twice in a row and is noted as a leading Iowa butter maker with many honors for himself and the Graettinger creamery.

Body Of Com. Fred T Berry Found At Sea
The body of Com. Fred T. Berry of Logan Iowa was recovered from the sea on Sunday. Berry was guest officer on the Akron and commanded the Lakehurst station and the rigid airship training squadron. He was 45, enlisted in 1904, commander since 1926, and held the Navy Cross. His home was San Diego. He and GC Norris of Wisconsin Lumber were Logan classmates and boyhood friends.

Members of Graettinger High School mixed chorus and mixed quartet will compete in the district music contest in Mason City this Friday and Saturday. Class Basketball Tourney Ends With Three Way Girls Tie
The high school gym overflowed as the final round concluded the class tournament. Junior boys seized the title with three straight wins after edging Freshmen 13 to 8. Sophomore girls beat Freshman 13 to 2 and Junior girls defeated Senior girls 15 to 4, leaving the girls in a three way tie. Sophomore boys topped Seniors 23 to 16 in the final.
