Coast Quake Reflections From Mrs Gammon San Marino Letter
Mrs J H Gammon writes from San Marino California April 8 1988 to rebut exaggerated quake reports. She cites engineers on building weaknesses caused by prior lax standards and notes 120 deaths with 85 from collapsing structures and 35 from shock or other causes. She recalls a 20 by 40 mile quake zone and argues California remains habitable with most repairs completed. She counters sensationalism and urges calm while acknowledging heavy property losses.
