The Fourth of July committee reports over $800 pledged and allocates funds for prizes, entertainment, and fireworks. A $250 fireworks display, a Beach Military band, and feed stations for farmers are arranged. A special program, Flint County style speakers, and street races are planned with a Sentinel Butte versus Beach ball game and burlesque events.
Thomas J. Power and Miss Anna C. Jacobs of Beach wed last Tuesday morning in Wabasha Minnesota at the Catholic church. Rev Father Worst officiated. Bridesmaid was Miss Alice Jacobs and best man was Harry Merickel of Wadena. The couple left for a two week honeymoon to Chicago and eastern points. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Jacobs of Wabasha, moved to Beach three years ago to work at the local post office. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Power Sr of Wadena, is a Beach merchant with Power Clothing Co.
Golden Valley and Billings counties met at Medora to settle old indebtedness of about 5000 dollars and seed grain bonds but Billings county refused the auditing firm figures. The dispute centers on roughly 2000 dollars with no formal rupture, hoping for court avoidance through compromise. Golden Valley claims the old county debt portion, while Billings County action remains pending. Also petitions circulated to dismiss J W Gowers as city police and appoint Frank Konszak, but council tabled them.
The long legal fight between Len Stockwell and J. W. Brinton ends with the North Dakota Supreme Court affirming a verdict for Brinton and costs against Stockwell. The ruling closes actions spanning from 1909, with Brinton acquitted in criminal court and Stockwell ordered to pay over $5,000 in civil costs. The high court upheld lower court rulings citing no reversible errors and sufficient evidence to sustain the verdict, bringing final closure to the editor’s exoneration across two counties.
The Beach High School held its third annual graduation with three seniors Elmay Ziegeweid Cora Finkle and Hazel Chrysler receiving diplomas after completing the program Prof Nelson presented the diplomas and offered a brief commendation. R F Gallagher gave the graduation address and musical selections were performed by local musicians Foster's orchestra. The eighth grade graduation occurred Thursday with twenty three diplomas. Alumni plans were formed Saturday with Albert Blackman elected president Hazel Chrysler secretary and Alvin Hoverson treasurer. The year ended with a total Beach school enrollment of 429.
Nevada M. Peterman born June 22 1854 near Crawfordville Indiana died May 26 1913 aged 58 11 months and 4 days. She married Emil y Douglas September 5 1886 and had eight children Howard Weaver Ottie Omer Grace Bernice Fred Ruby and others with two sons Wally and Frank Peterman surviving. A devoted Sunday School teacher for the United Brethren Church she helped organize the local class and inspired many with Bible stories and faith. Funeral at Carlyle Church conducted by Rev C E Hogue assisted by Rev Ira Howley and Rev R Whitaker with burial at Carlyle Cemetery. community extends condolences.
Beach, a major oil hub, received 2 247 barrels or 1 2 352 gallons of gasoline and kerosene in May from Standard Oil and Hughes firms. J R Waters inspected the shipments, with inspection fees totaling 561.78 dollars at 25 cents per barrel. Oil supplied to Marmarth and Belfield area, fueling numerous power outfits. Fourth of July celebration planned in Marmarth and Belfield.
Glendive report details arraignment of Samuel Roberts on assault in the first degree for shooting Ray Lowe during a western Dawson county roundup near Miles City. Bond set at 7500 dollars. preliminary exam scheduled for June 7. Lowe survived, Roberts remanded in sheriff custody as case heads to district court. A lone witness, a boy named Lock, testified amid conflicting reports of the incident and motives.
A lightning bolt hit Herman Clocksin’s Carlyle area home during a valley storm last Wednesday. Lawrence and Victor Clocksin, seated at a table, were knocked unconscious with the former in a two hour plus recovery. The bolt destroyed the table, tore boards from the house, caused $300 to $400 in damage, and burned all clothing inside the residence.
