Texas Parks biologists warn Panhandle pheasants face harsh winters due to scarce cover. Extensive cultivation, few wetlands, and routine plowing or burning strip away windbreaks and tall grasses. Without unplowed fence rows and retained stubble, birds risk starvation and cold exposure, threatening future brood stocks.
