The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce Retail Division outlines a 4:30 p.m. December 1 parade with Santa, bands, floats and two float divisions. Stores may stay open until 7 p.m. for four days before Christmas Eve, with JC Penney planning 8 p.m. openings from Dec 16. Mrs. Avis Macomber Funeral Services Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Avis Lorene Macomber 64 of Route 1 Gladewater were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Murphy Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Wood Cemetery. Mrs Macomber died Sunday in a Gladewater hospital after a long illness. She is survived by her husband J. E. Macomber two brothers Bruce Wood Kilgore and George Wood Gladewater two sisters Iris Smith and Kate Bouknight both of Gladewater a step son Eddie Macomber Dallas a step daughter Mildred Dyer San Antonio and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bob Sypert Fred Sessions Tim Bland Gene Causey Loyece Hancock and Bob Reed.

Mrs. Minerva Bell Dies at 92 in Gladewater Texas

Mrs. Minerva N. Bell 92 of Rodeo Street died Monday after a long illness in a local hospital. Graveside services will be at Mixon Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday. Survivors include three daughters two sons eight grandchildren 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The death notice notes her Cherokee County origin and longtime residence in Gladewater with church affiliation.

Gregg County Voter Registration Hits 11 500 in First Month

Gregg County Tax Assessor-Collector Bill Harper reports about 11 500 residents registered to vote in the first month of the 1972 cycle. About 28 000 applications were sent out. Certificates will be sent to those who returned their forms by week end or early next week.

Kilgore GHS students attend UIL Student Activities Conference

Six Kilgore High School students and two teachers joined the University Interscholastic League event at Kilgore College. Participants demonstrated poetry interpretation, debate, drama, ready writing and other activities with coaches Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Brooks present and Barbara Davis, Trey Hugman, and Jim McCrummen in attendance.

Baby dies in Maple Street accident

Jack Louis Hearrell III, four months old, died Sunday morning at the family home when a plastic sheet over the mattress suffocated him. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church and burial followed at Gladewater Memorial Park. He is survived by his parents, a sister Laura Lea, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Country Club Sold to Longview Developer

The Gladewater Country Club and 164 acres were sold by Quentin Abernathy to Longview developer Fred Maxey. Maxey plans a 40 acre subdivision called Maxey Acres Country Club Estates with about 40 homes priced over 20,000, add nine holes, remodel the clubhouse, and start construction within six months while maintaining current membership rules.

Two Injured In Cycle-Car Crash In Tyler

Mr and Mrs Donald LeRoy Stanley of Route 1 Old Longview Highway Tyler were injured when their 1966 Harley Davidson collided with a 1969 Ford driven by Rogers Kirkland of Quitman at the S Dean Street and Highway 271 intersection. Police charged Kirkland for failure to yield. The Stanleys were taken to Municipal Hospital then Medical Center. Mrs Stanley was reported in satisfactory condition.
