Rotary Governor William Nicol of District 581 will visit the local club with a noon luncheon at the St Clair Restaurant on Thursday following a Wednesday pre-meeting assembly. Nicol, a Dallas business and civic leader, has extensive Rotary service and military background.
East Texas Parks and Wildlife officials note poor dove and especially squirrel hunting due to sub par mast in bottomlands. Hunters in uplands fared better when post oak and red oak acorns produced.

Lola Phillips 84 native of East Mountain died Thursday morning after a lengthy illness at a local nursing home. Funeral services were held Saturday at West Mountain Church of Christ with Carl Tyson and Rev Herman Reagh officiating. Burial was in West Mountain Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, two daughters, a brother, three sisters, 13 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.
The United Fund total reached 2654.00 at week’s end with donations from the Mailing Civic and Social and Advanced Divisions. Scout Troop 194 along with Mrs. DeLoris Weeks posted posters on Wednesday and many individuals and organizations contributed.

East Texas area focuses add to John Ben Shepperd Texana Collection Memorial at Gladewater Public Library. New titles include Tyler Texas CSA by William A Albaugh III and History of Titus County Texas by Traylor Russell. Also 200 items from the John Ben Shepperd family expand the collection with Confederate and local history materials.
Local attorney and municipal judge Jack Finley urged urgent judicial reforms in a Lions Club talk. He praised the jury system, criticized trial delays, and called for speedy trials, arguing reforms should start with laypeople rather than judges and lawyers.
