Fire damages house on 1508 Alice after heater closet blaze
Fire Thursday at 10:25 p.m. damaged Darrel Bennett's home at 1508 Alice with heavy smoke and heavy damage. Fire started in a hot water heater closet amid buckets of paint and an outboard motor. Units remained on scene over an hour. A separate brush fire on North Ridge at 11:10 a.m. Friday caused no listed damage.

Burnley rites held for Gradie Burnley at Big Sandy church
Funeral services for Gradie Burnley were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Big Sandy with Ira Bouldin delivering the eulogy. Interment followed at Union Grove Cemetery. McCauley and Son of Gladewater managed arrangements. Surviving relatives include five sisters and two brothers. a large extended family.
