Gladewater Plans Bicentennial Fourth of July Program

Gladewater prepares a large Bicentennial Fourth of July celebration with a Lake Gladewater fireworks display funded by donations. Events include a 10 am parade with a flyover, 2 pm stunt flying, airplane rides, a lake picnic, a 6:7 pm boat parade, and dark fireworks. Funds raised total about $1,707.04 toward preservation goals, with $792.96 still needed.

Building committee forms plans for Gladewater community building

Fredalene Clark, chairman, said a central committee with one representative from each civic group is forming to gather ideas for a proposed community building in Gladewater. The group met with the American Legion and Auxiliary during a June fish fry to outline plans to possibly place the building on Gladewater Round-Up grounds.

Fletcher Rites Held Monday

Funeral services for William Riley Fletcher 64 of 410 Sunset were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev G A Stanfield officiating. Burial followed in Jacksonville cemetery. He was born in Jacksonville and lived here 46 years, a retired construction and oil field worker. Survivors include wife Gladys a daughter Virginia Freeland of Gladewater two brothers John Fletcher Maydelle Freddie Fletcher Rusk two sisters Mrs James White Rusk and Mrs Dora Barker Linden and several nieces and nephews.
