Nurses Hear Challenge on Legal Status in Texas
About 500 registered nurses at the Texas Nurses Association convention in Houston heard Austin attorney Charles M. Babb argue that nursing in Texas faces legal status issues due to loopholes in state statutes. He urged nurses to push Governor and legislature to ensure only nurses and the TNA speak for nursing interests. The four day event opened April 15 at the Shamrock Hilton with 1000 nurses attending from a 7200 member group. East Texas delegates included Betty Smith and Cecile Jordan of Gladewater, Lois Barlow of Longview, and Opal Stewart and Barbara Reeves of Kilgore.
