Upshur Chamber awards six honors at Gilmer banquet
The Upshur County Chamber of Commerce honored six individuals at the 1975-76 membership banquet in Gilmer. Dr. Madison Ragland received a first-of-its-kind award. Kathryn Porter, Bill Patterson, Angela Jenkins, and Billie Poole received Outstanding Woman, Man, Young Person, and Rural Citizen honors respectively. The event also installed a new slate of Lions Club officers and featured remarks by Rev. Richard L. Irvin.

Norfleet charges dismissed in Gladewater case
District Attorney Odis R. Hill moved to dismiss the State of Texas v Shannon Lee Norfleet in suit 31 021 for lack of evidence. County Judge Henry Atkinson signed the April 17 1975 order noting the criminal action is dismissed and the defendant discharged. Norfleet had been arrested for speeding on Highway 80 East December 31 1974 and charged with possession of marijuana.
