Bus Collision Near Gladewater Causes No Injuries
A Gladewater school bus and a half ton pickup collided at the Lincoln Springs Road Joy Road intersection seven miles southeast of Gladewater. Cody Houston drove the bus and Mrs. Dorothy Gordon the pickup when Houston attempted a turn at 7:30 a.m. State troopers in Smith County investigated. extensive pickup damage but no injuries reported.

Gladewater Tennis Star Scurlock Advances To State
Sharon Scurlock, a Gladewater High junior, won regional honors in Arlington and will compete in the state finals in Austin on May 2. She defeated Sherry Nipp of Van 6-0 6-2, Andre Champion 6-1 6-2, and Mary Jacobi 6-0 6-3, then beat Sharon Gaeder 6-3 7-? in the final. Other GHS players Kathy Hill and Rhonda Thomas lost to Electra 5-7 6-3 6-3. Horace Francis, longtime Garrison schools superintendent, will discuss Texas school financing in Gladewater Monday at Club Lake for area boards.

Union Grove school trustees elect new officers in brisk April session
In a rapid meeting the Union Grove board canvassed the April 5 election results, swearing in incumbents Jesse Bailey and Tommy Bynum. Mason Phillips moved to extend J A Tuttle as president and M M Shelton as vice president, with Bailey as secretary. all were approved unanimously. Superintendent Cooper reported 94 percent of taxes collected and noted a delinquent roll around 9100 dollars of a total 173000.

Thirty seven students were initiated into the Ruth Aston chapter of the National Honor Society during a Tuesday ceremony in the Gladewater High School auditorium. McDonald rites held Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church
Funeral services for Eshel A. McDonald 61 were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. Richard Johnston presiding. Burial followed in Memorial Park under Stone Funeral Home. He died Sunday night in a Tyler hospital after a short illness. He was born November 2, 1913 in Kildare, a World War II veteran and member of the 1C0F Lodge. Survivors include his wife Bob Ann and daughter Lisa Ann.
