Gladewater Teachers’ Century Plus of Service Highlighted
Three Gladewater educators combine for 107 years in the local school system. Constance Howell, dean and Broadway librarian, began teaching in 1936 37 and later set up the Weldon library after a 1953 fire. Gladys Brown, Gay Avenue teacher, has 36 37 years in the system and moved to Gay Avenue Elementary after integration. Jessie Mae Pynes, high school faculty dean, has 34 years in the system and built a long homemaking career with notable students and awards. The piece lauds a century of service and notes community ties, family, and school history.
