Church to Celebrate 125th Anniversary in Claridon

The Congregational church marks its 125th birthday on Sunday, September 28, with morning services and a Union Workers dinner. At 2:30 Dr. Paul Kershner of Akron will speak, followed by reminiscences and choir reunions. Dinner reservations requested with Mrs. Clifford Babcock or Mrs. Robert Fenwick. Pictures and articles from the past will be displayed.

Chester Grange Homecoming Set for Sept 23 at Chester School

Chester Grange invites all to a Booster Night and Home Coming September 23 at 8 00 p m in Chester school auditorium to honor old settlers and prominent citizens. John Richmond will voice a tribute to Chester as the Sesquicentennial theme is highlighted with Grange meaning presented in pageantry directed by Mrs Glenn Russell.

Suit Over Bequest to Chardon Church Heads to Probate Court

The probate case questions whether the Chardon Christian church continues after a merger with the Congregational denomination. Frank Root as administrator seeks the $10,000 bequest from Sam Barker, contending the church is non existent. Members argue the church remained valid and approved by Barker. The case will be heard in Common Pleas Court with many witnesses.

The Geauga County Cancer Unit will hold its annual meeting at Claridon church on September 25 at 8 00 p m Dr Edward Goodsitt pathologist of Huron Road hospital will speak The meeting is open to the public Refreshments will be served The executive board thanks volunteers who staffed the Cancer booth at Burton Fair for education efforts.

Ward McDonald Attends School of Banking

Ward McDonald vice president of The Chardon Savings Bank Company and M A Fox vice president of The First National Bank of Burton just returned from a two week residence session at the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin Madison. The program runs three two week sessions over three years to graduate. The pair met many bankers from across the country and heard over 100 lecturers on banking economics law and industry.

Edna H Warner Dies in Middlefield at 88

Edna H Hazen Warner aged 88 died at the home of her grandson Dr Vaughn Ishee in Middlefield Sunday at 7 30 am. She was taken to Burr Funeral home in Chardon where services were held Tuesday at 2 pm. Born in Munson she spent most of her life there and in Chardon and was the last of seven siblings. She is survived by grandson Wayne Ishee and Dr Vaughn Ishee.

St Helen Welcomes New Pastor James Moran in Newbury

Parishioners at the Church of St. Helen in Newbury greet newly appointed pastor Reverend Father James J. Moran at Sunday masses. Moran, born in Cleveland, is a World War II Army chaplain and Silver Star recipient who will be installed at a September 21 Mass. He previously served in Cleveland parishes and with the Air Force.

Bloodmobile Schedule Sets Visits to Chardon and Burton

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Chardon on October 16 and Burton on October 17. Coordinators plan early appointment scheduling with contacts in Chardon and Burton for donors. A luncheon at Claridon Town Hall honored last year’s Red Cross volunteers involved in the program.

19YearOld Near Death in Accident Near Middlefield

Ray Gingerich 19 of Middlefield was seriously injured in an auto wreck on Parkman Middlefield Road three miles south of Middlefield. His car, carrying Ronald Adams 19 Albert Miller 22 and Ely Troyer 19, blew a tire, left the road, rolled, and struck a tree. Gingerich sustained serious head injuries. others suffered minor injuries.

Garden Party and Style Show Planned by League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters hosts a garden party and style show on Wednesday October 1 at Mrs. C. P. Titus home. Tickets are 75 cents covering the style show party refreshments and an afternoon of entertainment. Attendees advised to arrive at 2:00 PM. A bake sale and local artist painting sale will also be available.
