Imogene Dean resigns as Geauga County extension department home demonstration agent, a position held since June 1936. She will leave Oct. 25 to take a similar post in Los Angeles County, California.
Geauga County Health Commissioner Dr W P Edmunds announces that Dr Richard Ruggles of Cleveland will begin another examination of school children’s hearing this week. Those with defective hearing from last year’s audiometer screening will be reexamined and further treatment may be recommended.
Merle H Mishne son of Mr and Mrs George Mishne 321 South St Chardon will be among 300 candidates for degrees at summer commencement exercises Sept 10 at Western Reserve University Cleveland Ohio Graduation will be at 4 pm at Severance Hall He receives the bachelor of arts in psychology from Adelbert College undergrad men’s division Western Reserve He graduated in 1948 from Cleveland Heights High School His fraternity at Reserve has been Zeta Beta Tau.
Geauga County citizens may attend an Honor Banquet at Burton High School on Sept 30 1952 with Congressman Francis P Bolton as guest speaker Two Geauga County women will receive awards for voluntary community service The event is during National Business Women's Week and tickets are sold by local club officers
Memorial services for William Sweeny 84 of 5546 Lexington Ave Los Angeles will be held Saturday at 2 p m at Rit ondare Funeral Home Rev C H Bowers of Chardon Methodist Church will conduct the service He was in X ray machine manufacturing and surgical supplies He married Lada Staffford June 8 1898 and she survives him They lived on a farm north of Chardon near Chardon Center He was nephew of the late Emmett R Sweeny of Painesville and known as a dog and horse lover Mrs Sweeny resides at 104 North Street.
Lloyd Carlson, president of the Chardon Chamber of Commerce, told businessmen Monday night that the parking problem is becoming more serious and urged search for additional parking space.
In Common Pleas Court Wilbur J. Taylor of Burton township seeks to close the only refuse and garbage dump serving Geauga County and alleges the operation by John B. Holmes is a nuisance harming nearby property values. Holmes defends the method saying earth covering seals odors and vermin and that the disposal area is distant from homes and screened by woods.
Chardon council session at Thrasher House discussed meter enforcement with about 30 merchants. Some urged leniency for short meter violations while others favored strict ticketing. the special policeman’s appointment was approved and bids for Thrasher House repairs were opened.

Names include Viola Kennedy Rose Akins William Hunter Emil Kortonsky Joe Blaha Herbert Steinbass and others with Grange meeting planned for September 15 and several travel and family visits reported.

Burton hairdresser Michall Almaci was fined 25 dollars Monday evening by Justice C. H. Russell of Troy on a reckless driving charge. Deputy Lummy San ers is listed as the officer.
All Geauga County Red Cross Blood Program workers are urged to attend a meeting on Wednesday September 17 at 2 30 p m at Claridon Town Hall. Dr William Geohegan and staff from the Cleveland Regional Blood Center will honor Mrs F W Klingemier Blood Program chairman and volunteers behind the program. Plans for next Blood Mobile visits in Geauga include Chardon October 16 and Burton October 17.
Late reports list several new polio victims including Betty Wengerd age 20 months and Ari Miller age 4 of Huntsburg along with Fannie Schrock age 10 and Ada Schrock age 8 of Burton. David Miller of Parkman and 27 year old Don Tinscher golf pro at Chardon Lakes are noted victims.
A surprise pajama party honoring Kay Oldenburg was held September 6 at Donna Sampson's home. Attendees included Betty Rayman Mary Jane Parks Barbara Biian Marilyn Taylor Carol Nagy Helen Hills and Gail Gallop. Others invited but unable to attend were Barbara Knapp Helga Tischendorf Beth Wil mot Sally Slagle and Barbara Cada. Refreshments were served and Kay received gifts.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Barbara Ann Eland who died Saturday at Lakeside Hospital Cleveland. Born February 22 1952 in Chard she was daughter of Edward and Virginia Eland of Kiwanis Lake Newbury. Rev Charles Trong conducted services at Allondare Funeral Home Chardon with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Jesse Elmer Sherwin was appointed a special deputy sheriff by local authorities, expanding the force with a designated duty to assist in law enforcement duties within the jurisdiction.
Victor A Battles died at his home on Jackson street Mentor after a lingering illness. He would have been 58 if he lived to Sept 11. Survived by wife Esther Engle son Vern A granddaughter brother Lynn and sister Lennah Bond and many other relatives. Funeral at Brunner Chapel Mentor Friday Sept ? at 2:00 p.m. Rev Philip Young officiated. Burial in Mentor cemetery. Pallbearers were brothers-in-law John Carl and Robert Engle and nephews Leonard Lester Battles and Dewey Bond.
The Research Progress and Aquarius clubs of Chardon announce their annual banquet for Monday September 15 at 6 45 PM at the Village Restaurant in Burton. Mrs Bob Barnum chairs the arrangements with Mrs Ralph Burgess as program chair and a trio of members planning reservations. Jay Otto Beyer Thompson must stand trial for manslaughter in the traffic death of Dorothy Ruth Posante of Cleveland. William E Woods of Cleveland is indicted for drunk driving and carrying a revolver after a police chase and tavern disturbance last May 25. The panel dismissed a non support complaint against Robert Pomp of Geneva.
The Chardon Board of Education hosted a noon open house dinner for the Chardon Teachers Association and school staff in the district cafeteria. Loretta Mae Holmes chaired as toastmistress with guests including Frank Schofield and Uno Urpi. The event featured a large wishing well centerpiece, student-made favors, and group singing led by Anna Dunn.
