Navy Men Return After Mediterranean Service

Ernest G. Tracy a commissaryman first class USN and son of Mrs. Bertha F. Tracy of Chardon Ohio returned to the United States aboard the heavy cruiser USS Baltimore after six months with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. The Baltimore visited Turkey Malta and North Africa and Split Yugoslavia marking a first US major naval force visit to that country. Pvt. George J. L. Williams formerly of Chardon completed processing at Fort Meade and was assigned to the 4th training Battalion at Aberdeen Maryland with six weeks basic training including M 1 rifle carbine bazooka and light machine gun instruction.

Geauga County Tops Ohio in School Support Rankings

Geauga county ranks high in Ohio for local school funding per survey by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. Seven districts levy 15 mills or more, with Auburn leading at 17.80 dollars per thousand valuation, followed by Chardon 16.80, Burton 16.00, Troy 15.50, West Geauga 15.30, and Parkman 15.00.

Two Win Trips to Atlanta Georgia For Milk Federation

Mrs. Earl Miller of Burton and George Timmons of Auburn won expense paid trips to the Milk Federation annual meeting in Atlanta. They earned leadership awards for youth activities and dairy work and will depart Cleveland with MPF directors to spend four days in Atlanta.

Sanitation and road work discussed at Aquilla Village Council

At the Oct 13 Aquilla Village Council meeting a Health Sanitarian's letter on village sanitation was debated and the official invited to attend next session. Grad ing Berkshire and Cornelia drives is planned and snow plow contact with Russell Haueter agreed. A note will request bus drivers to pull off main highways for grade school drop offs and street signs will be installed in weeks.
