Geauga County Civil Defense shows a developing cadre across townships with trained volunteers and coordinated efforts with the 5th Area Defense Organization. New air raid wardens training starts, two way radio links are in place, and local control centers are planned to connect with the county center while appointments and reorganizations continue.
About 250 Farm Bureau members families and friends gathered for Geauga County Farm Bureau Fall Frolic and fish fry at Thompson high school. Kenneth Sperry announced the 1952 federation meeting January 3 at Claridon, and Mrs. Sam Patterson outlined the 1952 membership drive. A promotion for T E Simpkins of the Farm Bureau Insurance notable for six years was noted with a new policyholders advisory committee formed. Legislatives and state resolutions call for farm research funding, broader road and driver training actions, tax and insurance improvements, and expanded highway patrol.
Mrs. Mabel Strong Root, 30, of Chardon, died Tuesday in Washington D C after two years away. Rites set for 2 p m Friday at Burr Funeral Home with burial in Chardon cemetery. She was a member of Pilgrim Christian Church. Surviving: husband Harry, parents Delon and Mrs Strong of Chardon, a sister Mrs Florence Mohr of Brian Texas, brothers Robert Arthur Harold Floyd and Raymond in Ohio and Texas.
The jury for Sheriff Stuart Harland charged with pampering as prisoner inspected the jail this morning. Impanelled Wednesday, the panel includes Donald Muchmore mayor elect of Chardon and 12 others: Donald R. Brainard Richard J. Boyink Frank C. McGary Beatrice A. Manning Steven E. Ferencie Matilda W. Binnig Vena B. Poorman Frederick Painter Letha Mesmer Ralph Quigley Ruth E. Murley and Margaret Mirisch as alternate.
Last Thursday Spooks roamed Chardon streets in a sponsored event by the Chardon Jaycees with help from the police and Chamber of Commerce. Prizes went to several grade groups for pumpkin carving window paintings and floats with winners including Robert Neil Marilyn Hlebak Donna McNaughton and Sarah Smith among others.
Geauga county voters approve an extra levy for child welfare and a half million dollar school bond in West Geauga while rejecting county operation funds. Chardon and Auburn renew or reject various school levies and village measures. results list numerous local races and school-board contests across towns.
Mr. and Mrs. Myrtis B Walker celebrated their 50th anniversary at their Palmyra Ohio home. Married October 30 1901 in Auburn they moved from Newbury to Palmyra 28 years ago. They have 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with most relatives gathering from Medina Shalersville Ravenna Cleveland Pennsylvania and New York.
On Thursday November 15 the Aquarius club will meet at the Thrasher house to hear a program titled Diamonds and Precious Stones by Rudolph Deutsch Co. On Wednesday November 14 Hampden Congregational Ladies Aid will hold a 1 p.m. dessert luncheon with Mrs. Donald Curry.
Geauga County Kiwanis club members will attend church services at Fowlers Mill Community Church on Sunday November 11 at 11 a.m. The event invites members and guests to participate in the service.
