Women Meet at Chardon Church

The first meeting of the Woman's Association of Pilgrim Christian church in Chardon on October 24 drew 75 attendees in the sanctuary on South Hampden Street. President Mrs. Nelson Burgess led reports as Miss Hazel Johnson presented the secretary's note. Mrs. Hal Burr sang with pianist Mrs. Frank Schofield, and Bertha Park, executive secretary of the Christian Women's Fellowship, shared insights from her Europe trip as a society representative comparing American and European women's lives.

Bessie Buss 73 Died After Illness In Chardon Rites Held

Mrs. Bessie Buss aged 73 died at 11 30 p m last Thursday at her home 227 S Hampden St following an illness. She was born in Munson Township and was affiliated with the Chardon Rebekah Lodge. Survived by a sister Allie Mae Hazen Munson and a daughter Betty Hanus Chardon. Funeral rites were at Burr Funeral Home.

Chardon Sees Major Blood Drive With 167 Pints Donated

Geauga County residents contributed 167 pints of blood at the Chardon Methodist Church during the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit. Donors from Chardon and seven surrounding townships plus out of county workers filled the center, with 168 of 188 scheduled donors appearing and 20 unscheduled volunteers including seven Minute Men.

Seek Aid for Retarded Children Meeting Planned

A Geauga County Federation of Women’s Clubs committee will meet Dr. W P Edmunds on November 9 to discuss services for 13 retarded children not in school. Attendees include judges, supts, Kiwanis and Rotary reps, nurses, doctors, the ministerial association, and committee members Mrs Forrest Babcock Mrs Samuel Patterson and Mrs C G Stevens.

Adelbert E Le Bar 79 died after a long illness at his Hameden home. Born Richburg N Y he moved here 70 years ago and farmed most of his life. He belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge. Surviving are his wife Eva a daughter Aline Smith Dorset two sons Wayne Michigan and Hallie at home three brothers Wilson Chardon Charles Michigan and Roland in California. Funeral rites were Saturday at 2 30 the Burr Funeral Home with burial in Chardon cemetery.

County Over Quota In Bond Sale

Geauga County Defense Bond Chairman Maurice A. Fox announced nine days remain in the Bond Drive and Geauga had reached 106.8 percent of its $27,000 quota. Reports from the Federal Reserve Bank cover September 3 through October 19 and final totals depend on 88 issuing agents. Harrison County leads with 192.1 percent, Summit 113.0 percent among major metros, Mahoning 102.6 percent, with eight counties over 90 percent.

Fourth Grade Halloween Party At Methodist Church

The fourth grade class of the Methodist church hosted Mrs. Bunder's fifth grade class for a Hallowe'en party at the church last Saturday afternoon. Twenty five children wore costumes and played games. Thanks go to the mothers of Mrs. Barone's class for the refreshments.

Auburn Couple to Celebrate 50th Anniversary at Farm Home

Clarence Franks and Ellen Walden mark fifty years of marriage with an Auburn farm home celebration. They spent 47 years on the Frankson farm, with two sons and two grandsons, Allen and Edwin, ages 16 and 14. Gifts requested to be omitted. They were married November 6, 1901 in Middlefield.

Chester Voters Face County Levies and School Bond

Chester voters head to the polls on November 6 to decide two county tax levies, one needing a majority and the other 60 percent. West Geauga Local School District asks for a 500000 dollar bond, plus a four point seven tenths mill levy, and a constitutional amendment to allow more than one probate judge. Hensel Discusses Year Round Health Control Program

Mrs. Ray Hensel of Munson spoke to the Montville Ladies' Aid on the Geauga County Tuberculosis and Health Association programs and showed film strips. The association’s Speaker's Bureau offers voluntary talks to clubs through a phone request to Chardon 5-4811 with a panel including Leighton Starr and B A Broughton among others.

Former Chardon Resident Dies at 52

Earl O. Rockey 52 a building contractor and former Chardon resident for 18 years died Sunday at Reed City Hospital after a recent illness. He was born Sept 7 1899 in Ada Ohio son of Dayton and Rachel Rockey. Surviving Florence his wife two daughters Rachel Rice and Loretta Hines four grandchildren and a brother Elmer. Funeral services were held at Livingston Funeral Home Reed City with Masonic rites and burial in Webber Township Cemetery.

Agnes Reier Hein former Geauga resident dies at 70

Agnes Reier Hein aged 70 died October 28 at her daughter’s Cincinnati home where she lived with husband Henry Hein. A former Montville and Chesterland resident, she is survived by nine daughters and two sons, including Clara Hobson and May Biard, and by 18 siblings. Funeral services will be Friday at St Mary’s Church at 10:00 a.m.
