Deputy sheriff Louis Robusky, once a Chardon village patrolman, is named probation officer by Common Pleas Judge William K. Thomas.
Pleasant Hill residents report multiple weekend visits and celebrations. Ray Williams of Bangor and E D Riders hosted guests. a neighborhood birthday surprise for Mrs Wayne Whiting occurred with gifts and cake. Various families from Mantua Orwell Chardon Middlefield Warren and Cleveland shared New Year visits and party events.
Mrs H S Woodin reports a series of visitors and gatherings in South Hampden. James Wingard and family hosted New York visitors. Madison Frink and A R Dean joined Merritt Woodin’s household for meals. Christmas and New Year celebrations linked neighbors Martin Pokorny Frank Young. Champlain from Conneaut visited Howard Egleston. Merritt Woodin family hosted Wilbur Spear and New Year guests Jennie Woodin and Austin Hayden. Miles Webster visited Jack Arnold. Lampman and Jimmie spent the night before departing to Lovington New Mexico.
Newbury PTA arranges a square dance with a professional caller for Saturday evening January 12 at 8 30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Newbury PTA.
Chardon Junior Chamber of Commerce sẽ honor Mr Micon F Brown treasurer of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce at their annual Bosses Banquet. Brown will deliver the main address at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim Christian church and resides in Raleigh North Carolina.
MIDDLEFIELD Norman Carlton took the oath of office as village councilman Monday evening at the regular council session. The oath was administered as one of the first acts of the new mayor Robert Eppley. Mr Carlton takes the place of Charles Russel who declined the post due to personal business. Other new councilmen at the council table Monday included Walter Minick and Grant Schmidt. Veterans on the council include Ed Kleinfeld Kenneth Mumaw and Dr Vaughn Ishee. Ed Kleinfeld was elected president of the council. Tam Rowley was appointed village solicitor for a two year term at a salary of 300 a year. The recent heavy snowstorm which cost the village about 400 for snow clearance prompted the councilmen to authorize the purchase of a snow plow at 585 to be attached to the front of the Board of Public Affairs truck. Don Anderson chairman of the board of public affairs reported that the well sunk on the Silvernail property was a dud and the village remained with the Gooding property as the only determined source for additional water.
James Colvin of the Chardon Board of Education said a gymnasium section was reported as included in spring construction by mistake. He stated only a two story high school is funded, with laboratories and classrooms on the first floor and a second floor housing a library home economics rooms and a commercial section. Further planning will wait on developments.
The Twelfth Annual Geauga County Forestry meeting is planned for Thursday Jan 17 at Claridon Town Hall. The all day event opens at 10:00 a.m. with sessions on Anna Husted Memorial Forest dedication Maple Festival recap Christmas Tree production and Maple Syrup study followed by talks on McNish Woods growth Elm disease Oak Wilt Farm woodlot management and more. Luncheon tickets available from local organizers and the Extension Office in Burton.
Mrs Langan reports Aid hosts on Wednesday with Mrs Lyle Battles and Mrs Lynn Battles as hostesses. Visitors include Mr S James of Chagrin Falls and Rev J Moody with Mrs Moody of Cleveland, at George James home. George Green, with the Ohio National Guard, home for holidays. Ray Phillips, Army in Kentucky, home for Christmas and New Year. William Stewart and son of Cleveland visited the A Langan home Sunday.
Corporal Jack Grantham son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Grantham is recovering in an army hospital after an accident while boarding ship. He suffered a broken leg and three broken bones in his ankle along with injuries to four others. He is stationed at Fort Lowton Seattle Washington.
Charles Hall announces the March of Dimes fundraiser in Chardon Village sponsored by the Chardon Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Wain Parsons and Dick Ritondaro co chair the Chardon Two drive. the campaign runs January 2 through 31 with a Porch Light Campaign on January 30 from 7 30 to 8 30 p.m. House calls target every home with porch lights on.
New mayor and council took oath Thursday evening at the Thrasher house for their first regular session. Wain Parsons elected president of the council. James Dinsmore named village solicitor at 750 dollars yearly, succeeding Newton Chapman whose resignation letter appears elsewhere.
Final date for applying for 1951 Wheat Loans or Purchase Agreements is January 31 1952. Applications are to be made at the PMA Office in the Old School Building Burton Ohio.
Pomona Grange invites all Pomona and subordinate Grange officers and members to a pot-luck supper at Claridon Town Hall on Sunday January 13 at 7 p.m. All Grange members welcome.
Leo Kempf was elected president of the Hampden Men's Club at a meeting Friday evening. Officers also elected were Herbert Steingass as vice president Joe Veverka secretary Chris Walters treasurer and trustees Fred Whitlinger and Roy Grant. A community card party is set for Hampden school Friday January 11 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Geauga County Thomas G. Rowley announces Roy Bonifield as Director of Health in the County Civil Defense Organization upon recommendation by the Geauga County Medical Association. A Mobile First Aid Station will be equipped using a county trailer. A County Defense Control Center is to be housed in a Welfare Department room at the Geauga County Courthouse.
Huntsburg and nearby towns show a flurry of visits and family events with many residents attending gatherings in Col umbus Cleveland Burton and Middlefield. Grandchildren arrive new bus drivers are named and several relatives visit for New Year’s and birthday celebrations across Geauga and Lake counties.
Newton B. Chapman charges the village council ignored economy recommendations and that the police department is too costly for Char don. He urges budget cuts across police and street operations, notes sidewalk liability, and questions traffic and zoning ordinances before declining to serve another term.
Ward McDonald, vice-president and cashier, reported to stockholders that Chardon Savings Bank increased total deposits by 1.2 million dollars in 1951, rising to eight and a half million with the acquisition of the Central National Bank of Cleveland branch. The boost came from higher savings and commercial deposits after moving into unified quarters at 100 Center St. in Chardon Village.
