Mabel Conley 97 died June 13 2002 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin born December 19 1904 in Phillips County daughter of Asa and Bertha Lapham. A Garden City resident since 1959 she was a homemaker and longtime cook at Garden City High School. Survived by four daughters, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church Garden City burial Valley View Cemetery Visitation Monday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Price & Sons Funeral Home Memorials to church or High Plains Retirement Village.

In Lawrence AP report, Rev. Dennis E. Schmitz 41 of Marysville faces a Douglas County felony for taking indecent liberties with a minor. He turned himself in on bond $15,000. Woman receives life for husband's murder in Overland Park
Overland Park woman Tyler Patton, 52, was sentenced to life for first degree murder in the death of her husband Edward Patton II. She must serve at least 25 years before parole.
