Disappearance of Farm Surpluses Signals Market Shift
Economist Kenneth L. Robinson of Cornell reports farm surpluses largely vanished in recent years. Government grain stocks have fallen, prices rose in 1966 and eased since, while 1967 aims to expand grain acreage to rebalance supply. Dairy and poultry feed costs rose about 10 percent. New York maple syrup production dropped sharply in 1967, the lowest since 1945 except 1945, and grain prices steadied amid Middle East tensions and weather.
