Jack Reavis was struck in the eye by a twig while swinging into a tree. Three stitches closed the wound and doctors hope the eye will be saved with no loss of sight. He is under best possible care and recovery is awaited.
While visiting her grandparents, Margaret Kanaly suffered a fracture to the left arm between the wrist and elbow. She was rushed to a doctor, the bone set, and later returned home near Reserve with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kanaly. She is reported to be doing nicely.
Mrs. McKinley widow of the late President died Sunday May 26 at 1 05 PM at her Canton Ohio home after a long illness. A stroke of paralysis on Friday hastened her end and she passed peacefully surrounded by close aides. Attending were Cortelyou Barber Day families and doctors. Roosevelt attended the funeral and was escorted by Root Garfield Wilson Loeb. Miss Helen Fowler of St Joseph is visiting.
Council Bluffs evangelist Rev. M. E. Brasro has conducted gospel meetings at Beulah Chapel on South Morton Street this week. The sermons have drawn good attendance and he is praised by Council Bluffs leaders for his work. A decision on continuing next week’s meetings will be announced Sunday night.
Last Tuesday Pat Casey caused havoc after obtaining 100 proof helicaxin booze. He rode a stolen horse, caused a wreck near the court house, fought deputies, set fires, and ended up in the calaboose after a scuffle with Deputy Sheriff Jim McFarland. The incident endangered pedestrians and drew calls for drastic measures against the unruly youth.
Judge Kelligar presided Monday and Tuesday disposing of several divorce matters and motions for new trials. The liquor case against Harry Simons of Rule was granted a new trial. A jury for June 10 will be summoned to clear railroad cases and actions against Humboldt’s 1st National Bank, with farmers excused during harvest.
Theresa Gebling died at her Falls City home on May 27 1907 from blood poisoning at age 31 after living in Hutchinson Kansas and Falls City with her husband Martin Geling and four children. Funeral at St Francis Catholic Church followed by burial in Steele Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at the Baptist church next Sunday at 11 a.m. Rev. E. H. Jackson will deliver the memorial sermon. The regular preaching service follows in the evening. Everyone is invited.
Two burglaries occurred Tuesday night in separate town areas. Mrs Katherine Wylie’s home was entered via a pantry window with silverware, bank book, lodge book and papers taken. the second floor rooms remained undisturbed. Don Horan’s residence was entered through a door with some china and two glass pitchers missing. no money was taken. Police issued Wylie and K M W marks and dispatched county-wide description cards.
Hiawatha banker C. O. Demmick was seen in our city on Monday, prompting local chatter about his activities and potential financial discussions.
The Tournament whist club met with Mr. and Mrs. Ned Towle last Thursday for a session where men played with their wives. JD D Reavis and wife won. Refreshments followed and all enjoyed a cordial evening. A Presbyterian church picnic party fished two miles east of Exchange Mill with an appealing supper by the young ladies. Only two of the party caught fish, and the group returned late after a jolly time. A second group of eight young people, including Misses Oddie Lapp Meeker Cain Mary Paxton and Jessie Paxton, and Messrs Rob Neitzel Max Werner Sidney Lapp Fleming Robb and Ralph McDonald, traveled to Sun Springs for a cool but enjoyable day in Hiawatha Kansas.
The program for Children’s day will be given at the Christian church next Sunday June 2 at 6 P M An excellent program has been prepared All are invited. Anna Meyers entertained sixteen guests at dinner at the Union House last Sunday for her sixteenth birthday.
Invitations issued by Mr. and Mrs. P. Tf. Jessen announce the marriage of their daughter Minnie to Horace Elwood Kennedy of Okmulgee Indian Territory. The ceremony is set for Wednesday June 12 at the Jessen home in this city.
The Woodman lodge head in Colby Kansas investigated a missing man tied to a recent death by suicide on a train. A body exhumed in Falls City could not be identified. The wife, not satisfied, had another grave opened and the body re-examined but still could not confirm the missing man. Investigations continue. Ed Hunzeker of Fargo visited town.
Mrs S Norton hosts a refined wedding at Humboldt with daughter Jane Norton uniting in marriage to Dr Arthur Nacrett Wolfe. The couple, long admired in Humboldt, will reside in the Weaver cottage on North Lane Street after July 1, joined by many friends who extend best wishes for happiness.
The council met in regular session to consider submitting a bond proposition to fund rebuilding the water and light plant with modern machinery. A five member committee A Graham John Lichty Warren Hutchins Fred Breeth L P Wirth was appointed to gauge public sentiment and plan a special election date and bond amount.
Mrs. Chas. Santo, of near Fargo, attended the funeral of her cousin Mrs. Martin Gebling held here Wednesday. Miss Cobb departed Friday for Centerview Missouri after a very successful term in the city schools.
Mrs. W. R. Holt joined Mr. H. to Humboldt this week to attend Kuper's cattle sale and visit friends. A. L. Richardson and family stay in Humboldt where Mr. R.'s chorus class performs tonight with the Richardson quartet assisting.
Frank Smith who bought the McKeiver home will move in soon. Samuel Huffnell and family left Monday for a new home in Detroit Kansas. Huffnell, long a town resident, leaves with the regret of many friends and best wishes for happiness in the new home.
