Falls City Elks Lodge 963 Installed with 37 Charter Members
The Falls City lodge of B P O Elks was installed Saturday night with thirty seven charter members. Omaha team of fourteen oversaw the rites led by grand exalted ruler Mr Taylor. Officers named include Dr Fred Kellar Rev H B Smith Geo E Hall R C James Herman Minnick Ed May Dave Davies John Powell and Grant Windel. A banquet followed the goat ride and speeches by visiting members marked a royal good time. The lodge occupies the entire upper floor of the Strong building and is set to be modernly fitted. Falls City lodge 963 aims to be a strong contributor among prominent local citizens.

The program included roll call, Favorite Recipes, a paper by Miss Morton on New England, and a discussion on Helpful Household Devices. Narrow Escape On Chase Street Horserun Causes Fall
Judge Gagnon and his son were driving home when the harness broke and the horse ran away. The judge was thrown from the buggy striking his head, injuring his forehead while the horse was stopped nearby. The son was uninjured and onlookers termed the scene a near-fatal accident.

Appeal for Auxiliary to Cemetery Association Work
Active members of the cemetery association auxiliary express discouragement over current affairs. Many with cemetery lots use water without payment and show little interest in funding. Few ladies shoulder the work. the call goes to all citizens to support beautifying the city of the dead with workers and funds to prevent the society from collapsing.

Eighth Grade Commencement at Gehling Opera House
The eighth grade commencement for the city public school and county district schools was held Friday at the Gehling opera house. Forty four pupils formed the class as Rev. E. Smith of First Methodist Church in Omaha delivered the address, titled Adding Beauty to Strength, or The Finishing of our Lives.

Fire alarm after spontaneous combustion at Warner’s Drug Store
Last Saturday night oiling the floor at Warners drug store used saw dust for sweeping. Scraps and trash were discarded in a rear waste can. Overnight the pile ignited, filling the room with smoke by nine Sunday morning. The fire was extinguished with risk of major damage.

Falls City Juniors Host Senior Class Reception
The Falls City high school juniors held their annual reception for the seniors on Thursday evening at the school. Rooms were decorated in green and white, the class colors, and the cream rose served as the class flower. An interesting program preceded elegant refreshments.

Death of Fred Paxton Remains in Tribune Hearts
The Tribune chronicled the death of Fred Paxton at his home on Friday morning May 19. Born January 11 1885 in Scotia Nebraska he came to the city with his parents about nine years ago and worked at W H Crook hardware. He died after an appendectomy two weeks of illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Episcopal church with burial at Steele cemetery. Mrs Laura B Paxton and daughters Mary and Jessie receive the community’s sorrow.
