Mrs. Will Uhlig misplaced a pocket book containing a little over ten dollars. Ed King of the Hinton place south of town found it near Wahl's store and asked at Reavis & Abbey’s furniture store. A firm member recognized the owner and the pocket book was returned, prompting Mrs. Uhlig’s gratitude for King’s honesty.
Trouble at Hamlin Kansas as a store is broken into and robbed on Sunday night. Dr Fulton’s bloodhounds from Beatrice traced a trail to a livery barn where two young men Ross Willards and a Meyers were found. The pair fled with a team and left town. neither has been captured. Willard was a familiar local figure.
At the Grand Lodge session in South Omaha last week W A Greenwald of this city was elected grand receiver. This high office oversees all lodge funds and drew many candidates. Mr Greenwald is to be congratulated on his fine campaign and success.
Mercy hospital in Falls City is shut down this week after Dr. Houston spent substantial sums to boost the venture. The businessman returns to his offices above D W Lowles confectionary store, signaling the end of this enterprise.
Chas Jones died at his mother’s home in Stella after a lung illness and failed health. Wm Snyder died at Sabetha and was buried in Albany with pallbearers including John Hossack. The Leipik infant Elsie Leipik died at home on Wilson Street and funeral services were led by Elder J Cronenberger at 2 pm.
Married couples include John A. Gilliams and Mary Moore of Craig Missouri at the courthouse by Judge Wilhite on Saturday. Thomas Murphy of this city and Margaret E Ryan of Dawson wed at the Dawson Catholic Church Tuesday with Father Cochran officiating. They plan to reside in Shubert. Thomas Matthews and Myrtle Webb of Tina Missouri joined in marriage by Judge Wilhite on Wednesday morning.
Veach who travelled from Herington Kansas won the Elliott cup in a close ninety four to ninety two contest. His victory drew hearty congratulations from many friends who praised his steady play and skill.
The Falls City Journal claims 155 inches of Falls City matter while The Falls City Tribune runs 221 inches, more than 25 percent greater than the Journal.
J. J. Lamb was arrested at Rulo and jailed on grand larceny charges for a wintertime theft from the Catholic church at Rulo valued around 350 dollars. He allegedly acted with a man named Batton, who was shot by a police officer in Iowa during a separate store robbery. Lamb has secured counsel and faces a preliminary hearing tomorrow.
Mr and Mrs G C Jennings celebrated their china wedding on Sunday May 14 1905 marking twenty years of marriage. The day featured a decorated home and an elaborate dinner for about eighteen relatives with many pieces of china ware gifted to Mrs Jennings. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Campbell of Salem parents of Mrs Jennings Jess Shrimptons Minnie Jennings of Salem George Slocum and wife Esbum Wheeler and wife A J Baldwin and family Herbert Bailey and wife of Stella.
A Saturday afternoon cyclone hit farms south and east of the city with heavy rain and high winds. Pat Murphy lost several small structures, W. W. Brown’s orchard was damaged, Chas Brecht's large barn was blown down, and Lake Side school house suffered about 25 dollars in damage. The nearby grove and corn cribs were heavily ruined with trees torn up.
The Roosevelt club met at the courthouse to organize for the June 1 congressional convention. Committees were formed including a room-vacancy survey, decorations, and finance. Falls City aims to handle crowd turnout and guests with homes available for visitors. Lincoln will run a special train with 200 Lancaster boosters for convention day. Otoe county condemns railroad passes by public officials and backs the president's railroad rate fight.
Judge William Hayward of Otoe County has opened headquarters at the National and requested accommodations for his twenty six aides a band and sixty followers.
O A Cooper of Humboldt told a Tribune reporter in the city on Wednesday that he is not a candidate for congress. He believes Richardson county should have a representative now and that this is the best time for the county to win the seat.
Governor Mickey granted the requisition for the return of Perry Meyers from Los Angeles California. Lieutenant Governor McGilton had refused to issue requisition papers a few days earlier. Meyers reportedly returned without an officer.
