Falls City beat Highland Kansas in a two game series here Monday and Tuesday. The first game was a low scoring affair with Falls City scoring in the second, third and fifth innings while the visitors added two runs. In the second game Highland showed strength but Falls City relied on new players and a key out. Prior pitched for Falls City and Meyers made a dramatic ninth inning catch with two on base to save the game. George Segrist umpired well.

Perkins and Frenchy, two colored youths arrested last week on theft charges, had a preliminary hearing Monday and were bound over to the district court. Unable to post bonds, they were returned to jail where meals are provided.

Freight Box Car Fire Stuns City Spectators
A box car in the B and M yards near the city caught fire as a freight train approached from the east Tuesday night. The crew detached the engine and tried to help but could not prevent the blaze which consumed the car’s contents including groceries a new automobile fireworks and other items. The car had been billed to Table Rock and the origin of the fire remains unknown.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Brethren church conducted by Rev Teeter with a large crowd in attendance. Interment followed at Silver Creek cemetery beside loved ones. Pallbearers were Anderson Miller Jas McDowell A L Southard Francis Shaffer Chris Hershey and Samuel Kimmel whose combined ages total 431 years. Miller and McDowell were 82 and 81 years old while Southard was 77.

Coroner Investigates Humboldt Suicide Attempt
Coroner Reneker went to Humboldt to view the remains of A B Stalder who reportedly took carbolic acid after returning home from the field with the boys to drink. He died about a half hour later, with depression from ill health cited as the cause of the act.
