A Davies & Owens window displays a vase by local artist Mrs. T. R. Mason. The city studio head and teacher has built a large class, and the piece is praised as an elegant work worth a special trip to view.
H C Smith invited Congress man Pollard to attend a meeting of the Horticultural Society on the 21st to deliver an address. This week Mr Pollard sent a letter of acceptance, a welcome development likely to draw a large crowd.
Sheriff Fenton and Chief Marts report a confession from Perkins the colored man in jail for robbing the National hotel. He admits guilt in several recent local thefts and desires to plead guilty at the next court session seeking mercy.
Harley Job, a boy, was kicked by a horse at the Benschoter and Doerner livery barn on Wednesday noon. His right leg was broken, he received prompt medical care at home, and he is recovering well. The barn owners say they restricted boys’ access but blame cannot be placed on anyone.
The first Fourth of July victim in the city is Willie Job who is carrying his hand after being wounded Monday by a blank 22 cartridge. He is recovering and warned other boys to be careful tomorrow noting the dangers of holiday displays.
San Marcial New Mexico reports Fr A Boose of our city has been elected principal for the coming year. Frank Boose, a graduate of our high school class of 05, University attendee, and State Normal graduate this spring, taught last year at Sailor school and now leads a town system in a 1000 inhabitant community. His youth is noted with confidence in his steadiness and scholarship.
Mr and Mrs Sears left yesterday for Shenandoah Iowa with their daughter Mrs Elva Vincent for a short visit.
Herbert Hedges, a mail clerk aboard a Kansas City bound train, survived a head on wreck that left the expressman dead and many injured. He describes tumbling in a wrecked car, narrowly escaping death with cuts and bruises and a terrifying fright.
The marriage of Marguerite Horrocks and Thomas Palmer occurred Monday evening June 29 at the Horrocks home in a quiet ceremony. Rev. G L Neide officiated with Miss Meeker Cain and Robert Neitzel as attendants. The couple plans to reside in Shickley, Nebraska, after wedding guests enjoyed refreshments.
T L Lewis now of San Diego and formerly of Falls City has been appointed by California's governor to the superior bench to fill a vacancy caused by a death. He is the brother of our K O Lewis and long resided on a farm near Falls City, well known for his ability.
Joe Bauer and Charley Zoeller came back Friday from Texas where they invested in Panhandle land. Bauer secured a full section and Zoeller a half section. They say they may stay local where their principal interests are.
Agent Whitford notes one banana train per week, Friday’s departure carries nineteen loaded cars from New Orleans en route to Denver Society. Anna Jane Clancy Lawrence born August 15 1885 in West Day Saratoga NY died June 20 OS at age 72 in Falls City wife of Lorenzo Dow Lawrence married May 4 1853 eight children three died in infancy surviving daughter Julia and children Edward Fred and daughters Dr Emma Lawrence and Miss Lawrence. Funeral at the Christian church with Revs Dunkleberger and Reichel. Interment Steele cemetery. Also note: obituary for a husband described as kindred to K P and Masonic orders died after a dog incident. funeral by Rev Maze at Holiness church. May they rest in peace.
Thomas Long died at Mercy hospital in Omaha on June 27 from blood poisoning caused by a dog bite. The 37 year old Daily Nonpareil solicitor, known in Rule and vicinity, left a widowed family, including four brothers and three young children, and was well liked among colleagues. He was buried after ten days of illness with his wife previously deceased.
Mary Jane Bradley died at her home on Monday June 2 at 6 30 a m aged 59 years 2 days after a heart trouble. She had lived here for years leaving a husband and four children. Funeral held from home Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev Reichel of the Baptist church interment in Steele cemetery.
Word reached Paris City of the death of Mrs. BE H Bordner at her Washington Kansas home. She was the mother of Mrs. Jess Whetstine formerly of Paris City and had visited here often making many friends who sorrow with Mrs Whetstine in her bereavement.
